issue28 Students should memorize facts only after they have studied the ideas, trends and concepts that help explain those facts. Students who have learned only facts have learned very little.

In today’ education, students are so taught in such a way that teachers insert numerous ideas into students’ minds and ask them to memory, then applied some facts to make students further understand the concepts. It seems that students who have learned only facts would learn a little when no idea is inserted before hand according to today’s education. As in the way from which idea is come from and method how to cultivate students, I disagree with the claim to some extend.

Firstly, fact is the foundation and resource of concepts. Nearly every concept and idea is coming from the curiosity of some facts, after carefully observing, critical thinking, reduplicate examining and endless practices, theory difficultly appears to the public. The famous first law of Newton, for instance, is so formed that when he was sitting under an apple tree, an apple was falling down to him. As students begin to study the law, they would understand it thoroughly when facts of falling materials applied to them previously. Study theories, is more like a boring process that students receive them passively without relating them to facts that are already exited in their minds.

Secondly, observing facts can help to sharpen students’ critical and logical thinking. One of the goals of truly education is to help students have a correct solution when they are facing some problems in the future, which need them to form a reasoning system in their minds when educated. The process of observing the facts, considering the possible reasons, distracting the false ones is the best way to form their own colorful and diverse ideas. When real concepts and truth afforded to them, they would know their flaws and try to find what is wrong with their reasoning process. There are so many unknowns in the way of life that we cannot explain according to the concepts we have learned in schools, we find solutions from critical thinking.

But it is a pity that nowadays educators are more likely to indoctrinate students with concepts before facts, which stabled and solidified students’ thinking orientations. Some professors in nowadays colleges always complain their disciples that they are inferior to kids when facing a new fact. Is it the fault of the students? Educators should find some solutions to rectify the flaws existing in the educational system. It is admitted that concepts, ideas and trends are essential during the process, but they should not be passively infused to make students more like a doctrinaire without active thinking from facts.

As a conclusion, the most important thing in education is to cultivate critical thinking of students. Observing facts and learning from facts is more essential than concepts and ideas with basic facts, which are taught after concepts. What’s more, educators should think more about problems existed in today’s education system.

这段论证不够有力,也不清楚。TS是事实是概念的基础和源泉。第2句证明了这句。后面的牛顿的例子就不知所云了。你想用他来证明什么呢?是说学生在学习第一定律前必须知道物体会落下这一事实?难道这个事实还要学习吗?从日常生活中看不到吗?
另外,就算理论和概念来源于事实,也不能证明学生就应该先学习事实啊,先学习理论不是更快吗?

我觉得题目的关键是“事实”和“思想,概念”到底哪个该“先”学,哪个“后”学的问题。可是在你的文章里这个地方体现的不够。你讲了很多事实对概念的必要作用,但这些作用和先后关系不大啊。而且有些概念也比较混乱,建议你在开头先下个定义明确一下,比如哪些算FACTS,哪些算 IDEAS,CONCEPTS。这样你后面也好写。
而且很重要的一个地方:题目里的FACTS是用来MEMORIZE的,可是你的FACTS都是用来OBSERVED,这好象不是一回事啊。
建议可以举一些更具体的例子,比如小学生学诗歌,肯定要从MEMORIZE FACTS开始,然后再慢慢体会其背后的IDEAS和CONCEPTS。因为他们的年纪还没法马上体会出诗歌背后的深刻含义。

背诵诗歌是记住事实吗?文科的事实和概念怎么联系?

背诵诗歌是事实啊。比如你6岁时背:床前明月光。。。
那时候知道思念故乡的痛苦吗?
先不求理解,把这些背下后,以后长大离开家自然就明白了。
不过我觉得理科的事实和概念倒是很难区分。
