issue8 第一次写和政治有关的~请大家帮忙看看~

Issue8. "It is often necessary, even desirable, for political leaders to withhold information from the public."

As the power of consensus is growing stronger in modern society, a mass of information including what the political leaders withholding primarily has been disclosed to the public. Is it necessary of such a disclosure? Or in other words, is it desirable for political authorities to withhold information from the public? Of course the top secrets such as military ones should be kept confidential, the political leader’s withholding the rest of information especially relevant to the public will do harm to the society.

In a society especially a democratic one, the demos are the host of country and they have the right to know the information relevant to the security, financing as well as other aspects about social life. The transparency of a society is the criterion to decide whether the democracy is practically executed. The information exposure benefits both individuals and society as a whole. For an illustration, if the government conceals the facts about the detailed social security conditions, for instance, the total number of the homicide cases each year in every region or the amount of heroin transported underground into our domestic market, the people will not have the consciousness to pay attention for their safety and responsibility. The duty of political leaders is to make the public aware of their actual surroundings, no matter how dangerous, violent, or turbulent, thus, the awareness can wake up the public’s alertness in order to avoid hazard, protect themselves. The situation that people live in an information withheld world is similar to a man in extremely dark road, he cannot see the hidden danger that might just by his side. As the responsible authority of a nation, should concern with the public’s safety and to awaken the consciousness of the whole public rather than withhold the disconcerting facts. Only when the government endeavors to protect its people, the society can develop harmoniously.

It is admitted that in some cases the political leaders decide to conceal the astonishing or discomforting facts, which is to comfort the public so as to avoid the panic. Nevertheless, holding information back is less effective than showing them to the public. The public is curious, thus, they always tending to know the sheer variety of information relevant to daily life. They would inquire the information from every possible channel either formal or informal, either credible or unauthentic. The inexact or exaggerated they received will result in more serious ending.

Moreover, there always exist some government officials who attempt to cover up their private circumstances especially in financing. Of course it is permitted to keep one’s private space, excessive protection however for political leaders about their privacy will provide them chance for obtain unfair money, gradually, the government will be deteriorated and the power of the nation will weaken. In both socialistic and capitalistic countries, the corruption and defalcation can be found everywhere. From an ordinary clerk to a mayor, few people can stand against the allurement: money. As a result, larger amount of money primarily for education, helping the poor, the unemployment benefits and so on is defalcated for satisfy the private desire. Due to the political authorities’ position, even though the public is suspect about their financial circumstance and resource, they still have the ability to be stable. Therefore, to end the corruption we need information transparent.

Admittedly, in some cases it is important and crucial for political authorities to withhold information of top secrets. For instance, the military secrets’ leaking out will threaten the national defence. As well as the strategy adopted in diplomatism should be confidential because it is directly related to the stability and security of the whole nation.

In conclusion, what is necessary and desirable is not to withhold information from the public, on the contrary, it will benefits not only the members in society but also the nation if the government is forthright to its people. Furthermore, we need cleanhanded political authorities who dares to show all he possesses to the public. That is the way for progress.

(比喻很精彩!) As the responsible authority of a nation, should concern with the public’s safety and to awaken the consciousness of the whole public rather than withhold the disconcerting facts. Only when the government endeavors to protect its people, the society can develop harmoniously.
