We invite applications for 2 PhD positions in Industrial and Systems Engineering at the University of Florida in one of the following areas:• Human System Engineering
• Ergonomics and Human Factor
The students will be supervised by Dr. Boyi Hu. The successful candidates will be offered a competitive financial package with guaranteed summer support (tuition wavier + $25,000 yearly salary + health insurance). S/he will carry out research projects in close collaboration with industry and academic research partners. The start date of the position will be Fall 2019.
Dr. Hu’s lab works on identifying pathways that influence and improve human health. Their innovative research approach utilizes a systems framework that is driven by design of tools with the goal of improving human well-being and system performance. The primary outcome of much of his research is the prevention of work-related injuries and musculoskeletal disorders (MSDs). His research study designs are both observational/descriptive and experimental, based in both the laboratory and the real work environment. Current top priorities currently: (a) falling injury prevention for aging population and typical working groups; (b) implementation of wearable sensing technology in healthcare and rehabilitation area; (c) driving safety and autonomous vehicle safety related research.
Requirements:
• Applicant should have a Masters degree in Industrial Engineering, Mechanical Engineering (Control Engineering), Electronic Engineering or a closely related field. UF also offer direct track Ph.D. option and usually it will take around 5 years.
• Applicant should have a background in Engineering and skills in programming (e.g., Python, C++, Matlab).
• Advanced knowledge and/or experience with machine learning is preferred but not required.
• Signal processing experience will be preferred.
