Is the beginner more likely than the expert to make important discoveries in any field of discoveries? I disagree this assertion according to at least three aspects. First of all, an expert owns more knowledge and abilities, which is of significance to important discoveries, than is a rookie. Secondly, long-term research of the expert will give rise to some marked experiences in the field he or she studies. Consider, for example, an experiment on a plant material about how to raise it more fast and efficient, how to use plant hormone and how to control the living condition for this kind of plant need a long time research. Finally, an expert is more likely to have a good communication and connection with his or her companies doing the same research. In another words, message transmission is fast. Therefore, I hold the point of view that whoever studies an area deeply is likely to get some tremendous and creative discoveries.
As we know, different from intelligent quotient (IQ), knowledge and abilities about a special field are not born with. On the contrary, they need a lot of time and energy to be accumulated. What lends the credence to me is the truth that a high intellectual elementary school student or even a pupil can not be called a expert no matter how much more he or she knows than his peers. This is due to the common sense that knowledge, which are necessary to your success, are not a talent but accumulation.
Secondly, how much experience you gain in the field you are studying is another important criterion to measure your percent of chance to success. Put it to the most general, a political candidate needs to know how to advocate his audience in a speech, a scientist needs to know how to control the proportions of different experimental conditions. Moreover, an experienced player understands how to use the weakness of his competitor, and a experienced business man can make money in different commercial environment, even suffered great economical agony. Thus, experience is useful in every area people engaging in.
Finally, with the increasingly advance of communication and connection between people even in long distance, message transmission is another condition you will depend on. Consider, for example, the electronic mails and telephone can inform you the latest advances in nowadays world in your field. At this condition, having a great number of compa0nies who can help you with your research is especially important. An expert can build up his or her message net through different meeting, dating, negotiations, etc. And a long time working on the same field and the fame as an expert will give you these chances.
Admittedly, rookie, a newer in an area, has some advantages which cannot be substituted. On one hand, rookie's passion will trigger a person's potential power inside him. On the other hand, a rookie can avoid lots of interrupts comes from your past outstanding work, just like a expert. For example, you have no endless invitations meetings, dating or even advertisings at all. These time can be used for your own business and it will lead to you success.
In conclusion, although some advantages exist among learners such as the passion and lots of time, experts will be more likely to be successor to find some important discoveries due to the abilities, knowledge, experience and the message net built up by themselves.

Where should the current historians focus on the history of human being? Some persons hold the view that the study has value only to the extent that it is relevant to people's daily lives. For me, I partly agree this opinion on this issue because the daily lives is important to history research. However, we should also find that the study of history on some other fields is also the essential part in the research of this knowledge.
First of all, it is admitted that studying our daily lives play an important part in the process of history research. The famous Chinese historians Hushi once pointed out: “The history of a country is consisted with the lives of its residents." This logion reveals obviously that the daily lives which seem to be unconsidered in the serious history study actually give the historians numerous vivid pictures and detailed information to study their objects. Take the greatest work in Chinese pictures----Qingmingshanghe picture for example, this artwork which describes the daily lives in early Song Dynasty has been studied by the Sinologist for thousands of years, because through studying the daily lives presented on this work, observing the life condition of the common people, recording the numbers of people and various tools the researchers can deduce the level of economics, politics, and military power in that era, which are the essential factor in history study. In short, the daily lives of common inhabitants in the history leave the current people a enormous database to study their lives.
However, though in the study of history it is important to emphasize the daily lives, the importance of the fields which seem to be not much relevant to the daily lives should not be ignored. In the tradition of history study, studying the politics is also an important method to recover the veil of history. The activities of politics is the most top and mysterious activities in a country. Through studying the aim or reason of a police decision, such as why Hitler chose to attack Russia instead of continuing to ally with that country, which can only be solved in the politics studying, many of the relevant history events brought by the police will also be resolved. With the deeper study on this field progressing, more and more confused questions in history will be solved in a most rapid way.
What is more, the study on the military history also provides useful value for our current lives. For instance, many Japanese companies invite the professors in history to give lectures on the military to their managers. There is an old saying in Chinese culture that the business field is like battlefield. Many principles in military are also available in business activities. The fruit of military history is welcomed among the business circles. This example illustrates that various division in history help people to meet the society more reasoningly.
Consequently, upon the critical analysis advocated and examples presented, we can arrive at the conclusion that both the history relevant to our daily lives and the one which is not attached to our lives so significantly, such as politics or military, provide the important guide in this time. In order to avoid our ancients' mistakes and live more safely and cozily, we should regard all of them. Therefore, in consideration of Professor Thomas' demonstrated teaching and research abilities, we recommend that she receive a $10,000 raise and a promotion to Department Chairperson; without such a raise and promotion, we fear that Professor Thomas will leave Elm City University for another college.'

The report pointed out that Professor Thomas has proved her to be well worth her annual salary and decided to raise her salary level and promoted her based on some evidence suggested in the report. However, a further analysis would find it is not the case at all. A careful examination in the argument would reveal how groundless it is.
First of all, one of the evidence which supports the committee's view is that her classes are the largest is unable to demonstrate her popularity. The numbers of different departments in a university varies differently. The absolute numbers of students or the size of classes does not reveal the popularity among the students. It is possible that the numbers of her students is 100 because her department contains 1000 students, while another professor in another department ,just like physics department, has 50 students in his or her class with the total number of physics department being 100. Some surveys on the popularity among the students will reveal the real situation more reliably. In short, it is not reasonable to make this decision upon the reason of the dimension of classes.
Secondly, though the money she has brought in research grants has exceed her salary these years in some degree, it does not mean that this phenomenon represents that Professor Thomas has the ability enables her to be promoted. The research ability of a scientist is viewed by many factors, including the papers, books, the funds and so on. Only bringing money to the university can not show that the professor has some great ability on her field, and it only reveals that she has the friendly connection with the society and fund providers. Without other detailed information which proves that the excellent research ability, it is hasty to draw the conclusion the professor demonstrates her ability.
What is more, even the university does not give the professor the raise and promotion advocated, it does not mean that Professor Thomas will leave Elm City University. Many elements influence the professor's decision on her work place, such as the atmosphere of study, the local friendship in the college and so on. There is no inevitable result that she will leave if the professor can not gain the reward.
Consequently, it is nature for the committee to consider giving Professor Thomas some reward since any university wants to attract excellent faculty. However, before any final decisions are made, the committee should evaluate all possible alternatives. To make the argument more logical and convinced, the arguer should provide more detailed and reasonable evidence.
