面试专业是经济学，春节前收到的通知。定的是今天（2月3日）上午10：30，但是由于怕堵车，我8：30就从学校出发了，打车，只是在三环上从西坝河到三元桥那一段堵了一会，不到9：30就到了亮马河大厦，于是就在楼下的星巴克要了一杯咖啡慢慢等，看到旁边一个学生模样的mm在笔记本电脑上不断地来回翻看东西，心想是遇到同伴了（后来证明了我的猜测是对的）。

接近十点的时候上去，通知的是3/F，实际应该到四层。上去以后跟在那里等候的几个学生聊了一会，发现今天上午的面试有化学、社会学和经济学的。有的是从上海、合肥过来的，oxford真是折腾人啊，电话面试不就好了。最早的面试十10：00开始的，面试经济学的教授真是一分钟都不浪费，我前面那个mm准时进去，半个小时后准时出来。社会学的教授非常nice，亲自出来跟面试的同学握手。等候的时候还见到了化学的那个著名的prof.wong，挺帅的样子，很年轻。：）

在我前面面试的那个女孩出来的时候很痛苦的表情跟我说good luck，我就有点发怵。到我进去的时候才知道那个教授的厉害。一个高个子老头，连问好都没有就直接进入主题，先跟我确定了一下我在application form里面填的一些情况，为什么选这个专业，将来打算做什么。接着就是拿着ps一句一句的问，大致就是你用了什么方法、什么数据，你的具体工作是什么，连ps上写的一些小细节（为什么你这么说而不是那么说）都被问到了。真是无比的紧张啊，感觉教授咄咄逼人，我只有招架之功，好多词一时都想不起来了。汗~~~~~

这还没完，又拿出我的推荐信，说这个教授在给你的推荐信中说了一个项目，你说说你在这个项目中的工作，我边说他边对照着推荐信。估计是想考察推荐信的真实度，好在推荐信我也比较熟，都是自己写的嘛，呵呵。

最后他问我有什么问题，我还是很常规地问了什么时候给正式结果，他说他一个人不能决定，还要回去和系里商量，然后给我指定适合我的college（因为我的申请表上没有填这一项，他们如果给我offer的话就给指定），由college跟我联系。

然后他就说结束了，让我叫下一个进来。连goodbye都是我说的，他都没说。（我怀疑是不是时差还没倒过来啊，问好和再见都没有。可怜这么大年纪了还这么折腾）

出来一看表，11：00正，整整半个小时，果然是一分钟不浪费。

刚刚结束的interview很可怕啊……
绝对的准时，和我的表1分钟也没差电话就响了。
历时半小时。
一句废话也没说，全是research.
3个人轮番的攻击！
他们问得特别的细

上来我讲了一段转录因子的research， 他们就开始了轰炸。
每一个步骤地具体方法？甚至具体的序列都给出来了，具体和什么蛋白作用。
为什么xxx，你怎么就选择了xxx不选别的？
他们也提出了很多别的方法，我都没听说过呀！
还好没有冷场，乱编了好多东西。

另外问以前的research和他们的有啥关系？
最后问了还申了哪些学校？

电话不清楚，而且对英国口音也不太习惯。
完全没有了聊天的环节……
然而还没有结束。
3个人一个主任，一个女博士，一个我选的教授。
教授说他还想和我单独谈……

先说说我的具体情况吧：小硕，研究生和本科都是工科（本科是机械系；研究生也是机械系，不过课题是碳纳米材料相关的课题），申请牛津的无机化学，春节后收到一封email说需要面试。面试地点在英国大使馆文化教育处（废话，呵呵），从清华南门可以坐731或者825过去，大概需要一个多小时，还不算堵车，因此建议坐轻轨，倒地铁到东直门然后打车，这样子会快一点。

我的面试时间是上午十点，我到的时候是9点办多一点，刚到那个大厅一会，还没来得及看看一路奔波后西装和领带是否整齐，突然就过来一个人问哪位是我，我赶紧过去说我就是，他说他是面试我的人，问现在就开始面试可以不，那我只好说可以了，于是就风尘仆仆的跟他进办公室去了：（

闲话少说，坐下后，他拿出我的申请材料和一张纸，纸上写的是要问我的问题，先大概给我说了说这是他们系第一次面试，主要是想直接的了解一下申请者的真实情况和英文交际能力，他说话比较快而且还是个亚洲人，再加之我比较紧张，刚开始有好多话我都没有听清楚，不过幸亏这些都不是很重要的，没听清楚也就算了。正式开始面试后他问我什么时候考的TOEFL，然后说我的成绩有一点低（只有603，汗ing），问我再给我一次机会去考，会不会拿到更好的成绩等等。然后他让我说一下目前正在做的课题的相关情况，一开始就没有generous的问题，全是一些专业相关的问题，而且问的特别具体，我采用什么方法制备，为什么要用这个而不用其他的方法，具体的原理和过程是什么样子的，采用的设备是什么样子的都要问；用什么方法检测和表征我制备的材料，然后这些材料有什么；。然后问目前做的课题和我写的RP有什么关系，在此之前有没有和他们系的人联系过，如果联系过，你对他了解多少等等；如果被录取了，准备采用什么具体的方法完成自己在RP中设定的目标，自己提出的方法和和已有的方法相比有什么优势等等；还针对我的RP和paper问了一堆问题，总之问的非常专业，比如问我在Raman谱图中某一个峰代表什么具体的物理意义，IR谱图中C＝C双键的波数是多少，还要画一些晶体的晶体结构，讲出hcp和fcc结构的区别等；最后问我得背景是工科，基本没什么化学的背景，如何保证去了化学系可以做好研究等等的问题。完了后问我有什么问题没有，我就向他解释了一下关于TOEFL的成绩偏低的原因，以及我对于我得工科背景如何去适应和做好化学相关的研究随便诹了几句话。等出来一看，原本35分钟的面试竟然用了100分钟：（

几点体会和建议：
1． 要面试的xdjm最好是对专业知识准备的充分一些，我在这方面很吃亏的，很多化学专业的问题不知道就在那里胡诹：（
2． 尽量到的早一点，可以好好整理一下自己的思绪和仪表，也有可能前面的人结束的早，这样你的面试时间就会多一些，可以更充分的展示自己；
3． 最好自己准备好纸和笔，这样子很多问题不会说可以画图解释：）比如一些物质的分子式，我们知道怎么写可就是不会用英语读出来；
4． 再就是自己不知道的东东最好就说不知道，或者说我知道也可以用中文表达出来，但是用英文有一定困难，对方也可以理解我们是国际学生的。
希望这点经验和建议对即将面试的xdjm们有所帮助。

现在看来oxford真的准备挑些好学生了。不过我觉得给奖的机会是不是也会相对大些。Oxbridge这些年都每年上百人的从中国招学生。真是疯了。连英国自己的杂志都承认这两个学校现在是以自己的历史为生活的依赖。 (live off the past.) 希望他们也能认真的考虑自己的名声，好好找些好学生。即使是那些自费的也要有点学术要求。目前看来，英国的高等教育正在积极调整，刚刚提交一个法案关于涨英国本国学生学费的。但是谁知道结果那？最重要的钱的问题。这个问题搞的Oxbridge 这两个唯一进世界前十的非美国学校（不知道哪儿的排名）现在是一塌糊涂。真是心疼一个近千年的历史，一个近800年的历史，就这样乱七八糟的。肯定也是有牛人在里面，但是牛人走的太多，从老师到学生。Oxford一个英语系的教授，这个职位可是全世界英语文学的精英们梦寐以求的（以前），转到了美国去了。Cambridge的Cavendish 实验室，27个诺贝尔奖呀，现在因为给不起5万英镑的年薪，所以想找的那个head不肯来。只能令请别人。在某种程度上，如今的英国学校，只要有钱，就能上，随便哪个学校，包括Oxbridge. 不说了。。。。

今天上午面试，英国大使馆。
上午10：40到了英国大使馆。本来安排的是上午11：15面试，但是因为前一个人结束得
早，11点钟就开始了，所以提醒大家一定要提前到，起码提前半个小时吧，别让人家等
你。而且也可以放松一下，熟悉一下环境。
面试的是Dr. Mary Lunn，后两天的数学专业面试应该也是她。Mary Lunn是一个很可爱
的中年女性，笑起来特别灿烂，我第一眼见到她就一点都不紧张了。不过她的口音特别
重，我好几次都听不清楚她说的是什么，一开始Pardon了几次才给弄明白了，后来大概
是习惯了，就比较顺利。
一进门，她就拿出我的全部材料，甚至包括推荐信复印件和ORS表，开始逐条问我。一边
问，一边不断地做笔录。
Dr: 你是不是申请了xxx的RA？
Me: yes.
Dr: 你的Research Proposal里面写得你想要去做xxx方向，怎么又申请了xxx的RA？
Me: blablabla
Dr: Good. 做xxx的RA你都有什么准备？学过哪些课程？
Me: blablabla，主要是数学和统计的。
Dr: 你学过什么生物方面的课程么？（因为那个xxx是做生统的）
Me: Not many, but I plan to choose some courses in this semester.
Dr: 你学过什么微分方程方面的课程么？
Me: Ordinary Differential Equations
Dr: 偏微呢？
Me: Not yet, but I will surely study if I need.
Dr: 你应该学。
Dr: 你在统计计算课里面学了哪些东西？
Me: Blablabla.
Dr: Good. 你用Monte Carlo方法作过什么东西么？
Me: Blablabla.说了一下我用Monte Carlo建模的经历。
Dr: 具体说说你是怎么做的？
Me: 开始具体讲解，在屋里的黑板上（确切地说是白板，用水笔写字的那种）写东西。

Dr: 有意思，你说你用了成本收益分析？我怎么不明白它跟Monte Carlo怎么联系的？
Me: blablabla继续讲。
Dr: Oh, I know. Good idea. 我们坐下谈吧。
坐下继续谈。
Dr: 你学过Bayes统计么？
Me: 学过一些基本的理论。blablabla，解释了一通。
Dr: Good, 在生物统计里面很多地方用到Bayes方法，你用过Bayes统计的思想作统计计
算么？
Me: blablabla，开始讲我在统计计算课上学的那堆东西。又在黑板上开始写公式和理论

Dr: That's right, good.
Dr: （开始翻材料），嗯，你参加了xxx竞赛？那个竞赛是怎么样的？
Me: blablabla，顺便把我带去的竞赛的paper给了她。
Dr: （开始看，翻了一会儿）Good!你们的选题是规定好的还是自己选的？是通过互联网
么？
Me: 自己选的，是通过互联网。
Dr: 是一个小组是么？都是你们学校的人？
Me: yes, they are all my classmates. And they are all girls.
Dr: 那你们系男生干吗去了？
Me: They form another team...
Dr: （大笑不已）。你们系男生多还是男女差不多？
Me: 当然男生多啦，我们是数学学院嘛。
Dr: 呵呵，好像全世界都是这样子。（我也笑了）
Dr: 如果不能去牛津，你打算干什么？
Me: 我还申请了几个其他的学校。
Dr: 都是申请PhD么？
Me: 是呀。
Dr: 嗯，我的问题问完了，你还有什么问题么？
Me: 把我准备的问题问了，她回答了一下。
Dr: 还有什么我没问到的你想告诉我的？
Me: 说了一下我骑车的经历。
然后我们闲聊了一会儿关于自行车的事情，她抱怨了一下北京的交通，然后又说牛津每
个人都有自行车。
Dr: 今天就这样啦，很高兴见到你。再见。
Me: 说了一些客套话之后再见了。
竟然忘了问什么时候能出结果，sigh，只好写个email过去问了。
整个面试大约40分钟。
总的来说感觉还挺好，虽然的确如前人所说，问题都很专业。但是只要准备的比较充分
，还是可以应付的。实在不行，可以充分利用黑板，尤其是数学公式什么的。
给下面要面试的同学一点经验就是，要充分熟悉你的材料，他们面试就是根据你写的东
西来问你细节，把所有的细节和它可能问你的东西都考虑到了就差不多了。然后多熟悉
一下以前学过的东西，主要是怎么用英文去讲述。还有就是小心英国人的口音，实在是
……非常难懂。不过Dr Mary Lunn很和善，不懂可以Pardon。她也会理解的。

今天黄昏迎来第一个interview，虽然之前一再说不要紧张，但是还是紧张的打抖，敲的桌

子直响。本来约好是5:15，结果等到5：30还没动静，就开始吃饭，吃到一半电话就响了，

大概是5：35左右，于是赶紧咽下去，pick up the receiver,开始prof就说apologize，等

一个什么会开完，所以晚了，然后就说talk about your application，于是开始了.因为

是MPhil，所以没问什么专业的问题，就问了一些比较常见的问题

P：what is your career plan?
me:Run a consultancy company or join the faculty member of a research institut

ion......
P:Is there any consultancy company in China?
me:Yes,there are some.But they are not so large as PriceWaterHouse,Anderson...

.
P:没听清楚，好像是问我的和别人的有什么不一样
me:Mine will focus on .......
Po you have any working experience?
me:No.But I interned in Coca Cola(wuhan).....
P:what did you do in Coca Cola?
me:.....
P:have you any other internship?
me:......
P:What is your research interest?
me:...........
P:what have you done in ...?

P:又没听清楚，pardon了一次，还是没听清楚，于是开始乱编了

接下来最ft的事发生了
P:xxxxxxxxx?（正在紧要关头，我同学从外面推门进来，这个问题没听清楚，pardon了一

遍，还是不行，等了一会，鬼子又解释了一遍，还是不行，中间差不多等了1min，他又说

了2遍，第5遍终于听到一个like least，于是猜是问我什么课不喜欢，反问了一句，果然

是）
me:Philosophy.I do not appreciate the way of instruction,not the content.
P:Have you any questions?
me:Yes.Do we need to do some research?such as publishing papers?
P:一句没听清
me:Yeah,great,sound interesting.And I note that you have a online learning sys

tem,would you please tell me something about it ?
P:.......说多好多好，最后说not ready,疯了，ft！
me:I believe it will be great when it is ready.Am I eligible for any financial

aid?
P:Yes, you could apply to some scholarship,but it is very competitive

整个过程20分钟左右，感觉问题也不是很难，但是中间那个让鬼子重复n遍的问题让我哭死

了，因为这个问题没有准备，临时想的，而且中间受到打扰，很不爽。
告诫后面要interview的xdjm，还是要多准备一些问题，尤其是问鬼子的问题，多搞几个，

虽然不一定听的懂，但要让人家觉得你很interested。感觉我准备太仓促，7号才开始准备

，今天就面试，而且中间去干了很多杂事，sigh，后悔中！
Anyway，总算是完了，wish申uk的xdjm都拿到理想的ad阿，拿ors垫背！hoho

2.9原定3点，偶大概2：25进了亮马河，门口的小姐问偶准备好的话就跟她走，因为前面的人不来了。偶想迟早都是一样就去了，结果就开始了长达一个小时的折磨：P
和楼上某位同学一样，握过手坐下就只奔主题。拿申请表问了偶的资金情况，然后问偶申请的其他学校，偶告诉她取消了剑桥，YALE去年就已经录取过。老太太马上做记录，然后就翻出偶的学习计划，针对偶当年做过的项目盘问一番，又问偶一些很细节的东西。接下去是最难的对话了，偶以为她是地理讲师对偶的专业不会问太多问题，可是事实上她绝对算个专家，开放性的提问令偶瞠目结舌，偶的表现只能用被动和糟糕来形容，南方来的偶对北京室内温度的不适应立马被放大在脸上。最后问偶有什么要问的，偶就问是否有去企业见习以及学生来源两个问题。然后老太太说偶目前是排在候选名单的前列，但是申请还未截止，所以结果要过一个多月才知道。然后问偶是否还在北京逗留，偶说晚上6点多的飞机，她说一路顺风，偶表示感谢就灰溜溜的出来了，一看时间已经3点半了！

总结：好象和美国不一样，那些经典问题基本没问，比较重视专业性，供后来者参考。

狂郁闷的面试

今天去imperial，和一个老板discuss，结果。。。
早上起床就预感不妙，8点起床。。。。头晕晕忽忽
首先到处在基建，找Bessemer迷了路，去了Goldsmith，然后迟到了5min，不过还好，peter临时换别上上课去了，第一郁闷，Peter告诉我Dave在411，结果在413
理论上是两个academic，一个lecturer Dave，一个reader Peter，因为网站上没有那个Dave的信息，我自作聪明以为Dave是Peter的research fellow...第二郁闷
然后和Dave东一句西一句瞎聊，在phd office逛了一圈，Dave说他昨晚只睡了4小时，我们一起去喝了杯咖啡。。没带cash。。Dave买单。。
十点peter回来了，和照片上一样甜美可爱，只是苍老了几分。。。首先说了些别的funding，academic record，还说系里面拿到12m在翻新设备，到十月我来的时候所有的facilities都是新的了。。。他居然知道我的学校在中国的ranking，让我大跌眼镜。。。
然后，两个人开始问我问题。。。你为什么要读phd？学完想找什么工作？为什么喜欢research。。。。晕菜。。。。我支支吾吾一顿乱说。。。
然后在我头晕目眩的时候，问一个简单的问题，什么影响diffusion，我说temp，grain boundaries，vacancies blablabla，然后他说什么影响vacancy扩散，physical basis。。。其实他期待的答案是两个原子的potential vs. distance那个图（高中水平）。。。我没想到（丢人）。。。他一再提示下，我才画出来那个。。。
然后他问，你知道什么是PhD?，Dave 提示，committee最后凭什么给你学位，我说做research project, solve a problem(再次丢人)，他说你要解决什么问题，？？？，我再次狂晕，他提示。。。我终于猜到答案，就是解决别人没有解决的问题。。。。
10min之后，他说他十点有个会，把我扔给了他的学生，让我11：15再去找他。。。后来在实验室逛了一圈。。。遇到一个同济的JJ，口语很好的说。
11：15我和Dave再次来到他办公室，问我都干了什么，我说在实验室逛了逛，和你的学生聊了聊天，他们都很nice。。。blablabla。。。然后正要开始讨论project，接到一个很重要的电话。。。说 i am going to take this call，让Dave先带我到隔壁小屋讨论。。。Dave介绍了他们project的一个outline，然后Peter进来了，问我有什么general的问题，一时没想出来，我说通过你的学生都了解了（丢人again）。。。
然后他说他们有很多project在申请，这个proposal是个很大的项目，有很多academic，postdoc还有phd students，不知道批不批得下来，还有一些别的项目，但是这个会最快，这个月底就有消息。然后说Dave会把proposal发给我，confidnetial（being proposed），不要给别人看，让我看看那个合适。然后说软件公司有几个人要来讨论license的问题，五年一次，所以。。。。
然后我又去Dave的办公室，因为我包仍在那里了，和Dave东一句西一句地聊起了那个项目，因为不了解，所以也聊不到重点，到最后还是讨论到了一些有意思的话题，Dave说You are getting the ideas。
之后和他的PhD students道了个别，就回家了。。。
忐忑不安的等待中。。。
今天真是丢人AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA


还有

末了peter说我的邮件title里面不能有哪些字哪些字，如PhD，Dear，
说我那天的邮件如何被忽略掉了，（还好我CC了一分给Dave）
会被他的spam filter过滤掉。。。。。晕
