想申请美国大学的有机全合成方向的研究生，不知道竞争是否激烈，以及全合成的前景好不好。

竞争一般吧，没感觉化学专业细分学科有多大差别，除非你申的学校某个方向特别牛也许竞争大些。合成前景正在没落，因为合成都外包了，不过未来也许很难说。

个人理解啊：全合成从竞争上来说，如果你选校定位不是牛校的话，还是很有希望的。不过如果是牛校可能比较难，因为老美还是有很多人喜欢做这种比较creative的工作的。

至于工作前景嘛，反正就是几个路子：公司或者学校做faculty。不过老实说，最近国外有机这方面的就业不太好（bad year），主要是因为毕业的phd确实太多了。供远过于求。所以，抱“牛腿”是必须的，不论你是进公司还是做faculty都要尽量这样。

I don't think it is difficult to find a job if you are doing total systhesis in the US. As long as you have one publication, it will become easier.

I always respect the total sythesis major people. It is said in chemistyr that once you can do total sysnthesis, you can do everything. But I don't think it is easy to get an offer in this area, even in the 2nd tier school.
