From F-2 to F-1 status:
* Completed application Form I-539
* Fee of $140 (payable to "Bureau of Citizenship and Immigration
Services"

- personal check or money order
* Copy of admit letter
* Original Form SEVIS I-20 (3 pages, complete item #11 on Page 1)
* Copy of Form I-94 for current status (both sides)
* Copy of picture page in passport (passport validity)
* Financial documentation (match with financial info. on Form I-20) -
original
* Additional information regarding Question "

art 4, 3 f or g" in Form
I-539 - Space in "

art 4. Additional information"(write a brief memo
about
how applicant has been financially supported, along with original
documents
such as bank statement, employment letter)
Additional documents as follows might be helpful:
* Copy of all I-20 forms which have been issued to F-1 principal Copy
of Form
* Copy of I-94 for F-1 principal (both sides)
* Copy of picture page in passport for F-1 principal (passport
validity)
* Copy of most recent U.S. visa stamp for F-1 principal
* Financial documentation of F-1 principal
* Marriage Certificate or Birth Certificate, whichever is appropriate
The form I-539 can be downloaded from the BCIS official website at
"www.immigration.gov/". Or, we can send the form to you. The
procedure
usually takes over 3-4 months. Once your F-1 status is approved, you
will
received a processed I-20 and also a new I-94 form. Please note that
under
the new law which has become effective on January 1, 2003, F-2 holders
are
not allowed to begin full-time degree study until F-1 status is
approved by
BCIS.
