Do you agree with the following statement? 20 years from now on, people will have more leisure time than they do now.

To be honest, I don’t consider the statement---people will have more leisure time twenty years from now on a good one. Maybe I should first predict what life will be like in twenty years: technology will be more advanced, meaning perhaps I can use my cell phone to pay the electricity bills and buy bus tickets, I can fly from Beijing to New York in just 2 hours sitting in a new designed vehicle. However, will these high tech things give us more leisure time? My answer is no.
My cousin, Jack, is a CEO in a Chinese insurance company called Ping An Company. If he is to be measured by the common standard of being successful, my cousin definitely can’t be more successful because he has an annual income more than a million RMB. But once I asked him whether he is satisfied with his current life condition, surprisingly, the answers he gave me was no. He told me that when a person has already owned enough money, it really doesn’t matter if he can make more or not and on the other hand, he may very well want to live a simpler life. Sadly, my cousin is one of those. He just wants to have an easier life but the reality just won’t let him because being a CEO means carrying strings of responsibilities which make the resignation hardly a consideration. Furthermore, since the globalization is coming, the marketing strategy will be more complex. This means that my cousin’s work will be increasingly tiring. Perhaps after twenty years, my cousin Jack will become billionaire, but I can’t see any chance for him in getting more leisure time unless he quit his job.
I once had a foreign teacher who taught me English. His name is Tom. We once had a discussion just about leisure. He told me that the happiest people he has ever seen was those who live in Africa. Despite being poor, they are always doing what they want to do---praying, chatting, having sex. Their life is full of leisure time. Hence, they are happy every day. However, if we look at the modernized world, everything is in a different situation. Hardly can we find someone who doesn’t feel stressed. Mommies and daddies have to work hard to raise their children and extremely hard if they want to send their kids into the Ivy League; students have to stay up late reading books and doing exercises if they want to get straight As. These will all leave people with more pressure and less leisure time. And it is the same in the business field. As I said, as time goes on, the world will be more modernized, bringing up more complex business and sophisticated work. The leisure time increasing seems impossible.
So, in twenty years, it’s very possible that we may save more time on our transportation or by paying cable bills and electricity bill on our cell phones. Nevertheless, saving more time does not equal to having more leisure time. At the moment, our work may be more stressful, our school exams may be more difficult and so on. All these will cut our leisure time to a smaller amount.
