Do you agree or disagree with the following statement? Newspapers and magazines are the best ways to learn about a foreign country.
There is a drastic debate on the issue about whether newspaper and magazine are the best ways to know about a country. In my view, nevertheless, newspaper and magazine is limited to some degree to thoroughly reflect a country's culture, prosperity and technology development. Also, a considerable number of high-tech products such as TV and the Internet will be superior to merely printed papers.
Admittedly, magazine and newspaper act as an indispensible role to shorten the distance among people in different countries. The vivid verbal description combined with people's imagination will reflect a mixed culture graph in people's brain. Through newspaper and magazine, people are able to know about Americans pursue freedom; Norway is a country filled with ice and snowflake and Africans are suffered from starvation. However, so abstract are the articles that people, who never watch TV and surf the Internet, will fail to acquire the free life style of American; the beautiful and crystal of Norway's snowflake and the merciful picture of African who are starving to death.
From another perspective, there are kinds of gateways to know foreign countries in better way. Nowadays technology provides such a convenience that televisions are available all over the world. Even people in the most remote village in Tibet are capable to receive the TV signal, which allow them to enjoy the humor of American sitcom. As far as I concerned, a large group of students are impressed by the prosperous and luxury style presented in Gossip Girl. Also, the fantasy 007 series lead us to compare America with extremely high-tech development.
Another technological invention--the Internet is a network with numerous information and recourses such as videos and movies. For example, most of my friends who studied in Florida often upload their photographs shot on South Beach wearing bikini, even video clips about the Halloween Party in their host family. Then we will find it convenient to download from their Facebook and learn about foreign landscape, people' living, foreign culture and so on. What a high speed way with vivid and striking visual-effects.
In conclusion, I admitted that newspaper and magazine is surely impact people's view about foreign countries to a certain degree. However, alternative ways such as television and the Internet are regarded as superiorities to learn about foreign countries, effectively and conveniently.
