Do you agree with the following statement? Government should focus more on environment preservation rather than economic development.
Nowadays, governments all over the world seems to be in a dilemma: on the one hand, they make efforts to enrich their countries by developing industry, agriculture, and science so as to possess the powerful competence to compete with other countries; while on the other hand, during the process of reckless development, environment becomes worse and worse, birds not singing anymore, skies not blue anymore. What should the government focus more on? Economic development or environment preservation? I think it depends on what kind of country it is.
Developing countries should pay greater attention on economic development. Because better economy can solve the biggest problems of that kind of countries - lacking money. Owing to short of funds, citizens living in developing countries haven't enough food and clothes so that they don't lead a carefree life, such as people in tiny countries located in South Africa. What haunts in their brains all the time is how to survive. So, it's impossible to ask a country crowded with such citizens to set aside money to do something about environment preservation. Moreover, protecting environment need advanced scientific technology, which means the governments have to invest large amount of money into science. Obviously, a developing country cannot make it. Hence, to them, economic development is more significant.
Different from developing countries, developed countries should focus more on environment protection. They are rich, so they are more qualified to invest large funds into studying environment preservation. Second, they have gotten rid of the struggle for survival. Their basic requirement has been ensured. It's time to think about future in the long term. We all know that when a country is developing its economy, its environment, inevitably, is more or less being damaged. Therefore, if the governments of developed countries let that situation continues to be intended by the nature, the environment will turn out to be anything but better and better. Third, most of the excellent scientists and technologists are concentrated in developed countries. Mastering so many favorable facts, developed countries could also help other countries on environmental protection by affording modern technology and so forth in order to prevent global pollution.
To sum up, caring much whether on economic development or on environment preservation is up to what country the government belongs to. If it is from a developing country, promotion of economy is its major task. If it is from a developed country, protection of environment is prior to economy.
