Thank you for your interest in our program. We are always interested in good students! And I think you would be a good fit for us.
I should note that I will personally be on leave next year, and will offer no classes. If you were to come, that means you would want to pursue classes in your other fields (3 fields are required) in the first year.
But actually, given your interest, you might decide to may US-Asia relations your main field? Or even Cold War history? Our department probably has one of the strongest programs in Cold War history in the US. If so, I think you should also communicate with Professor XXX since he is our expert on US-East Asia relations. (And in applications, always good to have more than one professor in the dept know about you).
As in all inquiries, though, I do want to warn you that our program is very competitive. The Department has decided to only offer admission to the number of students that we can offer full funding to. And tht means we only admit around 5 new students a year. Even so, we currently do have 5 Ph.D. students working on Asia (though different countries and periods). So Asia is a strong component.
Please let me know if you have any other questions.
