Associate Professor Stan Fung took up his position at CUHK in December 2013 after a teaching career of over 20 years in Australia and the United States. Educated in Hong Kong and Sydney, he is a researcher who has published widely on Australian architecture, contemporary Chinese architecture and Chinese garden history. His most recent work is a contribution to Oxford Bibliographies
in Chinese Studies.
Stan’s work has been supported by grants from the Chiang Ching-kuo Foundation for International Scholarly Exchange in Taipei, the Graham Foundation for Advanced Studies in Architecture in Chicago and the Ian Potter Foundation
in Melbourne.
Past research students include Charles Rice (now Professor and Head of School
of Art & Design History, Kingston University, London) and Paul Hogben (now Senior Lecturer at the University of New South Wales). Stan has also served on doctoral committees at McGill University and in the Alexandria Center of
Virginia Polytechnic & State University. Current PhD students and their topics are: James Curry (the design of corners in the work of Wright, Schindler and Neutra) and Hamid Rad (uses of Islamic geometry in the work of Nader Ardalan).
Stan has had an association with the College of Architecture & Urban Planning in Tongji University, Shanghai, since 2003. He has also been Visiting Research Professor of Architecture at Shanghai Jiaotong University, 2009-12. In 2010, Stan was named Visiting Professor of Architecture at Southeast University in Nanjing, without limit of time.
Stan served as Founding Editor of Fabrications: The Journal of the Society of Architectural Historians, Australia and New Zealand (with Desley Luscombe) during 1988-1992. He is currently associated with the following publications:
