30) Teachers' salaries should be based on their students' academic performance.

Write a response in which you discuss the extent to which you agree or disagree with the claim. In developing and supporting your position, be sure to address the most compelling reasons and/or examples that could be used to challenge your position.

Teachers are one of the most respectable occupation under the sun, for they are the soul maker and profoundly influencing the future generation and ultimately the future of a nation and even whole humanity. So teachers must be paid well for such a important role in the society, but the question of how much they get paid and what should determine their salaries remains. Traditionally, teachers in public or private school live on their more or less fixed compensations. Yet, there are voices saying that their payment should be based on students' academic performance to motivate teachers do a greater job in teaching, which would definitely receive criticism. But, I would argue that this proposal is not only feasible but also beneficial to both teacher and students in the long run.

First of all, students' academic performance can greatly reflect the quality of teachers' essential job, teaching. Basing their salaries on students' score is as reasonable as determining employees' income on their sales.  This connection between performance and salary can greatly motivate teachers to think every way they can to improve every student's score in their class.  And this motivation is something that the traditional salary system cannot offer.

The critics would argue that the development of a student does not limit to scores, and also include their personality and interpersonal communication. That score-salary connection will certainly narrow the teachers' scope of teaching only on academic subjects and thus ignoring other important aspect of a student's growth.

However, we never assume that teachers' salaries should be solely based on students' performance. Teaching students may well be just part of their job, which may include research and administrating tasks.  Their salaries base may also include other field of their students’ performance.  

Performance-based salary systems are widely employed in industry and prove with great effectiveness, and can so be utilized to teachers.
