浦项工大（Pohang University of Science and Technology, 简称POSTTECH）是十分年轻但充满活力的精品型大学，成立于1986年，在短短的20年的时间里迅速发展，规模不断扩大，曾被国际上评选为亚洲理工类大学第一名，韩国理工领域内的第一名。

　　浦项工大以“提供最好的教育，进行最尖端的科学研究，服务国家乃至全世界”为其办学理念，现有教授220人，全部具有博士学位，取得国外知名高校博士学位的占85%。该校有本科生1277名，研究生1491名，其中博士生776名。每年经费预算约1亿美元（2004年$138.3m）。

　　该校是以理工科为主的专业大学。学校现共有11个院系设有本科生课程，5个系设有研究生课程，涵盖了人文、社会科学、化学工程、计算机科学与技术、电子工程、生命科学、材料科学与工程、数学、机械工程、物理、环境工程等领域。浦项工大还有一所研究生院和两所专业研究生院，拥有的研究机构达52所。

　　目前，浦项工大已同14个国家的50多所大学建立了合作关系，并通过签订合作协议及备忘录的方式确定了学者和学生交流，互换信息等合作内容。浦项工大在中国的合作伙伴主要有以下14所，分别是复旦大学、哈尔滨工业大学、清华大学、北京大学、南京大学、上海交通大学、北京科技大学、中国科技大学、浙江大学、电子科技大学、东北大学、延边科技大学、西安交通大学和台湾大学。

HIstory

Pohang University of Science and Technology, POSTECH, was first established on November 25, 1986. POSTECH was the realization of two outstanding visionaries -- Professor Hogil Kim, founding president of POSTECH, and Mr. Tae-Joon Park, founding chairman of the Pohang Iron and Steel Company, POSCO -- who envisioned the singular goal of building a world-class research university in Korea.
It was through the collaborative initiative of these two great men and what they represented that POSTECH has been able to defy all odds to achieve the level of success and recognition that it enjoys today. Combining the scientific and educational expertise of Professor Kim and the financial and enterprising abilities of Chairman Park, they followed a simple formula of selecting a small number of outstanding students, supporting them fully to allow them to concentrate on their studies devoid of financial distractions, and recruiting the finest faculty available.
In March of 1987, POSTECH admitted 249 freshmen students to 9 Departments -- Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry, Material Science and Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, Electronic and Electrical Engineering, and Chemical Engineering.

In November of 1987, POSTECH received approval from the Ministry of Education to offer graduate programs and subsequently accepted 91 applicants for its Master's programs and 18 candidates for its Doctorate programs for the 1988 academic year.

In 1989, the Department of Life Sciences was approved for undergraduate education, preceding its approval for graduate education the following year.

In November of 1991, the Graduate School of Information Technology was opened, admitting 32 students into its Master's program.

In October of 1994, the Graduate School of Iron & Steel Technology was opened, admitting 54 students into its Master's program.

In 1995, the Ministry of Education selected POSTECH's Environmental Engineering Program for its Graduate School Support Program. The School of Environmental Engineering admitted 15 applicants for its Master's program and 3 candidates for its Doctoral program in the latter half of 1996.

Since the first convocation ceremony was held in February of 1990, the number of degrees awarded has continued to grow. As of February 2002, the figure has grown to 3412 Master's degrees and 570 Doctor of Philosophy degrees in Science and Engineering. In addition, the present number of Bachelor's degrees awarded in Science and Engineering has reached 2464.

By the end of Year 2002 (16 years since POSTECH's establishment) there will have been a total of 2677 students -- 1329 undergraduate students and 1348 graduate students: 721 in the Master's Program and 669 in the Ph.D. Program, 52 at the Graduate School of Information Technology, and 72 at the Graduate School of Steel & Iron Technology, under the guidance of 210 full-time and 49 visiting professors in 10 departments.

In pursuit of substantive academic exchanges and collaborations with acclaimed institutions of higher learning around the world, POSTECH has entered into academic agreements with 49 universities in 13 countries. At present 192 POSTECH exchange students have studied for six-month periods at sister universities, with 68 foreign exchange students studying at POSTECH.

While POSTECH continues to limit its number of freshmen admissions, it has grown both in its educational and research activities as well as its prominence and academic standing in the scientific community. In May of 1998, Asiaweek Magazine selected POSTECH as the Top University in Science and Technology in Asia in its survey of Asian Universities and Institutions of Higher Learning. Also, the Ministry of Education has recognized POSTECH as the Most Outstanding University in Educational Reform every year since 1996.

POSTECH is proud to house the Pohang Accelerator Laboratory, PAL -- the only synchrotron light accelerator found in Korea. PAL was established in 1994 as a National User Facility. With 14 beam lines currently under operation, there have been a total of 3126 scientists -- from Korea and abroad -- having conducted more than 749 research projects at PAL since 2000. With 8 additional beam lines to be installed by the end of 2004 PAL will become one of the largest synchrotron radiation facilities in the world.

In addition to PAL and the Pohang Light Source, POSTECH places heavy emphasis on research. POSTECH is home to 8 Research Centers of Excellence -- as designated by the Korea Science Foundation, KOSEF; a Specialization Center designated by the Ministry of Defense; 7 National Creative Research Initiatives -- assigned by the Korea Institute of Science & Technology Evaluation and Planning; and more than 21 other variously affiliated laboratories.

Active research is also pursued in each of the 10 departments. More than 537 researchers are involved in research activities in cooperation with faculty members on 611 projects financed by a US $50 million research fund. The completion of the Electronics Building -- donated by the LG Electronics Corporation -- along with the Environmental Building -- funded by the Ministry of Education -- will serve to better accommodate researchers in their quest for knowledge and strengthen collaboration between academia and industry.

In August of 1998, Professor Sung-Kee Chung was appointed as the third president of POSTECH. Under his leadership, POSTECH has continued to grow by establishing closer links and collaborative efforts between industries and the university. In January of 1999, the Pohang Technopark Foundation was established under joint participation with the Pohang city government, POSCO and POSTECH. The Technopark will serve to provide the infrastructure for aiding in the transfer of technology between academia and industry, ensuring its continued success in fostering collaborative relationships.

On April 25, 2003, the Tae-Joon Park Digital Library opened on campus providing a state-of-the-art facility with a vast amount of learning resources for the students and faculty to utilize. Composed of six floors covering 25,000 square meters of floor space, the library has a maximum seating capacity of 1,150. Other features of the library include a computing center, research information center, communications center, and multimedia educational systems.

On September 4, 2003, Prof. Chan-Mo Park was inaugurated as the Fourth President of POSTECH. A professor in the Computer Science & Engineering Department at POSTECH, President Park had previously held posts as the Dean, Graduate School for Information Technology at POSTECH (1991-1994) and also was the Acting President of POSTECH (2002-2003).

In the same month, on September 24, 2003, POSTECH was ranked as the #1 Korean university for the second year in a row by the JoongAng Ilbo, a prominent Korean daily newspaper.

On October 16, 2003, the POSTECH Biotech Center was opened on campus. One of the nation's largest of its kind, the POSTECH Biotech Center is pursuing large-scale collaborations between academia and industry to generate maximizing synergy effects in the biotechnology industry field.

In July of 2004, International Physics Olympiad was held in POSTECH.

In September of 2004, POSTECH was ranked as the #1 Korean university for the third year in a row by the JoongAng Ilbo, a prominent Korean daily newspaper.

In December of 2004, POSCO contributed grounds of 16.3 acre for POSTECH.

In Feburuary of 2005, POSTECH conclude an agreement with Bio-Medical Center in Catholic university of Korea.

founding philosophy

POSTECH was established with three basic tenets:
1) to provide the best education,
2) to perform cutting-edge research, and
3) to serve the nation and contribute to the world scientific community.

POSTECH admits a small but very select number of high school graduates and supports them by providing an environment ideally suited to learning. By maintaining a relatively low student to professor ratio (~5:1) POSTECH ensures a mentor-apprentice relationship between faculty and students.
Originating from a basic need to develop technologies and applications as part of the initial drive to develop the nation, POSTECH places heavy emphasis on research. In addition to the numerous research centers and laboratories affiliated with the university, POSTECH is proud to host POSCO's Research Institute of Science and Technology (RIST) and the Pohang Accelerator Laboratory (PAL) - a national user facility and the only synchrotron light source in Korea.

Through collaborative efforts with industrial partners, POSTECH actively seeks to take advantage of the synergy that exists between industry and academe to develop a wide range of innovative technologies and applications. The completion of the Pohang Technopark is expected not only to facilitate technology transfer but also greatly enhance the city of Pohang as the technological center of Korea.

Since its establishment in 1986, POSTECH has striven for excellence. Ensuring its students of the highest academic standards in the scientific community, focusing on effective research, and fostering the tripartite relationship of Academe, Research, and Industry, POSTECH is committed to serving the nation and humanity in the new millennium.

posco我们系，今年来了6个读硕士的

复旦大学、哈尔滨工业大学、清华大学、北京大学、南京大学、上海交通大学、北京科技大学、中国科技大学、浙江大学、电子科技大学、东北大学、延边科技大学、西安交通大学和台湾大学。

里面至少有九个国内一流的院校.这些学校据我所知她都亲自做过宣传.

这几个学校的有人去韩国么?
我们学校怎么好像没听说有人去啊?
