1st: paper~~~ you could talk with some graduate students in your depts, they know it better.

2nd: most undergraduates do not have paper, most. so GPA is the most important one. or high rank might also work for some univ, not all.

3rd: research experiment~~ just do some help in the lab, could talk some with the profs in US when you are doing TaoCi.

when coming to other thing, like 专业类比赛, it is hard to say. since profs here they have no idea what are those chiese competieions are. they do not have time to google it for every. but some of them might help:
(i) it is well know in the world not only in China;
(ii) the univ you wanna apply, they know this competition, like from earlier chinese students.

By the way, GT are not that important, but it is something to knock the door after all, so you also need to prepare for them carefully, especially for top univs, they usually have not high reqirement, however, the students who got enrolled always have high GT.

Not really.
But for top 10 it is some kinda truth.
if you have a look at resumes of those students in EE of top 10, they are 90% from TsingHua, Pecking, ShanghaiJiaotong...
However, it is not an absoute stuff.

However, no matter which univ you are going to apply, you are still in hot competition. Because it is EE. Just be prepared, there are many many chances waiting actually, just try to get one or two.

If you really wanna go to top 10, this might be a better way:
get a master in US then go on applying fot top10 PhD.
