Issue 1 "Important truths begin as outrageous, or at least uncomfortable, attacks

upon the accepted wisdom of the time."

Do essential truths always come with extremely severe critics and attacks rather than friendly welcome, as the speaker asserts? I agree with the speaker when it comes to old or ancient science and art, in societies where crucial tyrant or rigorous religons existed. However, nowadays, important breakthroughs no matter in science, art or other areas are most of the time, if not always, the cynosures of our society and be welcomed.

First to begin with, when a specific background, like a country lack of democratic or controlled by a tyrant is considered, then the scientists and artists are always conscious not to shake or even offend authorities of their time, except for some extraordinarily brave ones have the bare dare to do so. The example of Garlileo is aptly to illustrate this point. In Garlieo's era, Aristotle was a giant in not only philosophy, but also in science and physics. As Galileo challenged Aristotle's theory by a experiment showing heavy objects fall as fast as light ones, disobeying the one told by Aristotle that heavy ones fall faster than light ones, he suffered unimaginable critics and threatens from all around people, old and young, famous and mundane. As all we know, Galileo is true in the heavy-light-fall matter, which is sufficiently explained by the Newton's gravity law. Thus, to challenge an authority is hard as, if not more than, to climb to the moon as a society overwhelms its big figures.

It is the same case when a rigorous region prevails in an era. These pedantic religious commitments refute every advanced but not with their disciplines thoughts in the name of protecting the traditions and rules of the popular religion. Nevertheless, most of them justifiably were controlled by their shameless desire to put the holistic society in their hands. As a consequence, the whole society takes the risk of non-improvement and eventually scientific, political, artistic, and economic withdrawing by passing all their attitudes towards and choices among innovations to the small group of presidents of the prevailing religion; and all the creative elites have few opportunities to change their countries, contribute for the improvement of human beings by displaying or publishing the most ever astonishing papers and ideas. Understandably, difficulty always for the young and motivate new scholars to show their innovative systems about various realms to the world if they tyrannically existed.

On the other hand, it has been quite a different case nowadays in that the government as well as the public has paid much more attention to modern development in many kinds of researches, even if the development is tiny, than the past. With the lessons learned from the history that our government has realized only the increments in science and technology can urge the economic of the country to increase at the same time, thus improving the life level of the citizens later, and that any intended intervention in the process or results of scientific and anthropology and other kinds of studies will invariably lead to disasters and forfeiture of the government in the end. Turning to the success of the Shengzhou NO.6 manned spacecraft program in China recent years, the achievement of time and space theory by Stephan Hawking, the recognition of cutting-edge writers and artists and so forth, these elites' breakthroughs in their realms are all attributable to our governments' efforts in identifying and accepting them.

In my observation and our common sense tells us that our government may still render to cover and scotch some research in some extent, especially when these research may threaten the security and peace of our society. For instance, the government specially discourages and may forbids any research involving nuclear weapons. Without too much harm, any truth and especially those crucial are welcomed by the government and the public.

In closing, the extent to which the acceptance of the essential truths depend on the eras and the government as well. In the history, many important truths were rejected at the very beginning while nowadays most of our public has be open enough to accept these truths.
