The speaker asserted that scholars and researchers should focus on their individual interests rather than the contributions which they could make to the society. I find this assertion to be one-sided.  As far as I concern, while pursuit their individual interest may excite their potential power, scholars and researchers should not overlook their responsibility and the expectation from the society.

I concede that it seems to be impossible to concentrate on a long- term research without any interest in it.  After all, it is researcher's inherent interest that pluck up his courage to find out any possible solution continuously through uncountable experimental and spur him to carry on when one cannot help to feel desperate about the result. What's more, interest, especially for a young scholar, can have a deep influence on his further career. As a typical examples, Charles Darwin, whose evolution theory was called one of the three most greatest discoveries in the 19th century by Karl Marx, showed a strong interest in collecting wild animals since his childhood and even took live animals such as rats or frogs to school. This interest never fade away and finally lead to his great discovery in Patagonia where he collected two different kinds of birds that have the same ancestor. This example demonstrates that even the odd interest of a research may contribute to his later significant achievement.

However, as the interests of researchers vary, some of the individual interest may appears to be hardly accepted by the public, even touch the bottom line of the social ethics. Without any limits, no matter from the legal system or  the public opinion, individual interest, along with the talent of research, may lead to guilty. I believe that no one want the tragedy happened in Mary Shelley's fiction , Frankenstein, occur in the real world, that a scientist who was once interested in the creation of life created a being in the likeness of man and finally resulted in revenge, murder and death.

In addition, the researchers and scholars should always keep their social responsibility in heart, without which their academic plans are only empty words. Researching for the research's sake should not be advocated, since the academic investigation is not a castle in the air. Only those scholars or researchers whose academic achievement can be widely used or significantly alter people's life, making it more convenient and effective, deserve the masses' highly praise and respect. In return, their highly responsibility can procure the process of the research. In history, the social responsibility of Watt James inspired the design of steam engine while that of Karl Marx gave birth to Das Kapital.

Just as the hero in the movie, Spider-Man , once said " With great power comes great responsibility. ", scholars or researchers who obtain the most advanced knowledge should always concern with whether their work make a contribution to the larger society, while no one can deny the value of interest. A combination of interest and responsibility would be the most perfect situation.

The speaker asserted that scholars andresearchers should focus on their individual interests rather than thecontributions which they could make to the society. I find this assertion to beone-sided.  As far as I concern (amconcerned), while pursuit theirindividual interest(貌似不定式/动名词/或者名词才能主语 pursuing their individualinterests, pursuit 是名词 其动词是pursue) may excite their potential power(感觉有一点点像chinglish-_-! ), scholars andresearchers should not overlook their responsibility and the expectation fromthe society.

I concede that it seems to be impossible to concentrate on a long- termresearch without any interest in it.  After all, it is researcher'sinherent interest that pluck up his courage to find out any possiblesolution continuously through uncountable experimental(adj…)experiment? and spur him to carry on when one cannot help to feel(feeling) desperate about theresultfuture?. What's more, interest, especially for a young scholar, can have(exert) a deep influence on his further career. As atypical examples(s), Charles Darwin, whose evolution theory was called one of the three most greatest discoveries inthe 19th century by Karl Marx, showed a strong interest in collecting wild animals’s what? Heads? Features? Furs? since(如果since作从此讲貌似前面需要用现在完成式) his childhood and eventookbring live animals such as rats or frogsto school.
还是仅仅虐待小动物的倾向?)This interest never fade away and finally lead to his great discoveryin Patagonia where he collected two different kinds of birds that have the sameancestor. This example demonstrates that even the odd interest of a research maycontribute to his later significant achievement.(回扣有力)

However, as the interests of researchers vary, some of the individual interestmay appears to be hardly accepted(too hard tobe expected )
by the public, (or 缺少连词或破折号)even touch the bottom line of the social ethics. Without any limits, no matter whether it isfrom the legal systemor  the public opinion, individual interest, along with the talent ofresearch, may lead to guiltycrime?
I believe that no one wants the tragedy want to seethe tragedy
happened in Mary Shelley's fiction , Frankenstein, occur in the realworld, that a scientist who was once interested in the creation of life createda being in the likeness of man and finally resulted in revenge, murder anddeath.

In addition, the researchers and scholars should always keep their socialresponsibility in heart(keep … in mind?),without which their academic plans are only empty words(empty check? Empty words是虚词的意思).Researching for the research's sake should not be advocated, since the academicinvestigation is not a castle in the air(空中楼阁). Only those scholars or researchers whose academic achievement canbe widely used or significantly alter people's life, making it more convenientand effective, deserve the masses' highly praise and respect. In return, theirhighly responsibility can procure the process ofthe research. In history, the social responsibility of Watt James inspired thedesign of steam engine(这个例子。。。 。。) while that of Karl Marx gave birth to Das Kapital.   P.S
English version: on capital

Just as the hero in the movie,() Spider-Man , oncesaid " With great power comes great responsibility. ", scholars orresearchers who obtain the most advanced knowledge should always concern withwhether their work make a contribution to the larger society, whilealthough?...while 的话从句放前面比较舒服 no one can deny the value ofinterest. A combination of interest and responsibility would be the mostperfect situation.

Charles Darwin, whose evolutiontheory was called one of the three most greatest discoveries in the 19thcentury by Karl Marx

Patagonia
MaryShelley's fiction , Frankenstein,
Watt James――the design of steam engine
Karl Marx gave birth to Das Kapital.
