大家好，我是轩漠，是15FALL的申请者。来寄托已有一年多了，寄托陪我度过了考T和申请的全部时光。我发此贴的目的一来是回馈寄托，为未来申请的大气科学系的学弟学妹提供更多的信息。而来也是我在申请过程中被汉堡大学的这个项目良好的组织和服务打动，希望能为他们的宣传出一份力。

我最终的去向是赫尔辛基大学，可能会显得很突兀，明明选择了其他的学校却来推荐不去的学校。但是我在这里想强调的是，我选择赫尔辛基大学的原因是专业方向的关系，我未来想从事大气化学方面的研究，因此相对来说赫尔辛基大学更适合我。并不是说汉堡大学的这个项目不好什么的。

首先我想先给出这个项目的网址，网站上有大量的即时更新的信息，一切关于项目的信息以官方网站为准。

Jennifer Vix：jennifer.vix@zmaw.de  这个是这个项目的小米。对于项目或者学校有任何的问题都可以咨询她，她非常非常地热情并且会尽可能回答申请人的问题。是非常NICE的一个小米，这是我在整个申请过程中遇到的仅此一家的服务！

我是欧洲的海参党，其实一开始因为德国的APS审核过于复杂，我是没考虑过申请德国的。然而在我14年下半年的申请进行到一定程度后，我发现欧洲小语种国家心水的项目不太多，当时最想申也唯一想去的就是赫尔辛基大学。但是考虑到我硬件并不是很好，GPA较低，相对而言的优势就是从事科研工作比较早（没有发论文）。我很害怕不能申请到赫尔辛基大学，因此决定找找德国的大气项目，看有没有合适的选择。对于汉堡的项目，其实我是比较早知道的，因为本校有一位老师就是汉堡大学的PHD回来的。因此当时知道汉堡大学的大气项目是挺不错的，但是具体还不是很懂，因为我校的那位老师对硕士申请方面也并不是太懂。而当我对德国学校进行了一个地毯式项目搜索之后，发现德国的英文项目和大气科学相关的并不是很多（德文非常多！而且非常强！），因此供我的选择也不是很多，因为我也不是很想转方向，哪怕是让我去学环科或者地球科学的其他分支我都不太愿意。所以我就把汉堡大学作为了我在德国申请中的主要目标，着手从各个方面去了解它的信息。

总的来说，汉堡大学的这个Integrated Climate System Sciences项目给我的感觉就是越去了解越喜欢它，越去了解越知道它的强大的典范（可能很多欧洲的大学都这样）。2014年10月，当我第一次尝试咨询关于APS的内容的时候他们就给与了我极大的帮助。首先他们告知我他们的项目申请不需要APS，但是去德国的中国学生需要APS签证，也正是因为这个特点，使得我得以顺利申请，因为我APS考了两次（T T），如果项目需要提前交APS我绝对就来不及了。与此同时，他们给予我大量的宣传文件是介绍如何完成整个申请的文件以及他们项目的要求，并且鼓励我申请。而在2015年2月申请即将开始的时候又发邮件通知我，提醒我申请。整个一系列的服务做得非常到位。期间他们回答了我大量关于申请的问题，每次的回复绝不超过3天（周末），基本都是隔天就回复的，而且不会挑重点回答，基本都是逐条回答的。在我得到他们的录取之后，因为非常纠结到底去赫尔辛基还是汉堡的问题。问了一些非常细致的问题，非常难以回答。但是Jennifer还是尽她所能地回答了我，在此我把当时的邮件贴出来，我觉得其中的部分问题可能也是想走科研道路的大气科学同学想问的。
Dear Jennifer,

I'm sorry to falsely use the words. By "organize your time" I mean whether I will cause trouble to you if I make my decision at the end of April which means I might accept or reject this place. In fact, now I'm waiting for my last school's decision and I got 2 schools' admissions. I applied 4 schools in all this year. It could be a hard time to make the final decision as you know. But as my career planning is continuing my study in Atmospheric Science to pursue a doctoral degree, your program is perfectly suitable to me. However, I still need to think over about it.

I have some questions which are important to me to ask and it might be cumbersome to you to ask. I beg your patience to tell me some of them which you are familiar about.

1. As I know about this program, a year is divided to two semesters and each of the semesters occupies about 3 months' courses. Thus, there will be 5 or 6 months are left every year without courses especially the first year of the program. Does any activity available to us which is relevant to our study? As for me, I want to find an internship (RA the best) in my vacations so that I could get the chance to learn more and practice in the real research. I have to say I have no interest in making money in my internship. What I want to obtain is just the chance to follow a group of researchers and get more scientific training in my vacations. Would it be possible? I'm worried about that I could not get such a chance because some people told me that in Europe working for a group without money is forbidden. But in my school now, I could find the groups which I'm interested in and just send a mail to them. If they think I'm qualified they will let me to join to study and do researches with them without literal contract in which I do not have any interest.

2. Would we have supervisors at the beginning of the program or just in the last semester? What is the maximum number of students each supervisor will have? What is the base of the supervisors to choose their potential students? According to grads or interest?

3. How much students would and got the chances to pursue their doctoral degrees? Where did they go to continue their doctoral study?

4. I want to know the strong specific areas of your teaching group. For example, dynamics, modelling, chemistry or others?

Yes, as our program is highly academic and placed withing the Cluster of Excellence CliSAP it could help your pursue your academic future and give you good opportunities for networking activities. It is your future however, and you should think about your personal plans.

Let me try and answer your questions:

1. Internships in Germany
Students have the possibility to work, do an internship or visit summer schools throughout our their semester breaks - if they have not decided to choose classes offered in that time. The SICSS offers a travel support for some cases. Please find more information here.
Where have you gotten the information, that non-paid internships are forbidden in Germany? You probably mean the new law on minimum wage ("Mindestlohngesetz"), passed this year.
As far as I know unpaid internships are still possible, but most institutions will offer a salary. Especially, because the intern has the right to request such a salary in some cases. There are several cases where the employee will not have to pay a salary as well. This is for example the case, if the intern does an internship which lasts lesser than 3 months.
So depending on the case, the employee will pay a salary or not. So, generally speaking unpaid internships are not forbidden. For more legal advice on this matter, you should talk to a lawyer or the public legal advice office, when you are in Hamburg.

2. Supervisors
Your supervisor regarding academic affairs will be Mr. Aike Beckmann from the beginning of your studies here at SICSS - Universität Hamburg. In the third semester you will pick a supervisor based on your field of interest and complete your study project. This study project will prepare you for writing your master thesis. How many students a supervisor takes on lies in his own hands. The relationship you will have with your supervisor lies in his, as well as in your hands. We remind the supervisors of their duty towards their students.

3. Doctoral Degree
All students can pursue their doctoral degree. They will just have to apply for it. The program is consecutive, meaning that is laid out for students to pursue their doctoral degree here at Universität Hamburg. Your chances to be able to pursue your PhD are therefore very good. In the past half of our alumni have pursued a doctoral degree s the other half has gone working within the public sector, NGOs or the private sector.
Financially the SICSS does not support doctoral candidates at the moment. If you have finished your masters degree and want to write your PhD you can apply for a post as a doctoral candiate or you can apply for a scholarship. 现在回看其中的部分问题其实很傻。。而且关于德国学制的问题我本身的理解也是错的，其实每年并没有那么多空闲的时间，完全是我的误解。在这里我要特别感谢Jennifer在我的申请过程中对我的帮助。

另外的关于项目的组织方面：SICSS is the graduate school within the Cluster of Excellence on Integrated Climate System Analysis and Prediction (CliSAP). CliSAP is funded within the framework of the Excellence Initiative of the German federal and state governments. CliSAP partners are the Universität Hamburg, the Max Planck Institute for Meteorology, the Helmholtz-Zentrum Geesthacht and the German Climate Computing Center. 不了解马克思普朗克研究所或者亥姆霍兹研究所的可以百度。总的来说这两个研究所都是德国实力超强的研究所，他们的气象研究所和汉堡大学组成了CliSAP，这个组织也是实力超强的，可以参考他们往届的论文数，http://www.clisap.de/publications/peer-reviewed/clisap-2/  2012年至今他们发表将近400篇论文，据完全统计，其中有3-4篇NS，还有大量的大气科学方面的一区SCI的文章。可以说其实力是有保障的。
在行政的组织方面，这个项目也非常健全。他们甚至有协助协调工作生活平衡的专人，甚至可以帮你找人看BABY。。。如果遇到了种族歧视或者男女歧视等问题也会协调帮助解决。。

另外，这个项目还有MSc学生的专门的学生会负责协调学生和学校之间的工作，并且会定期办party促进MSc学生的交流。

可以说这个项目的组织是非常健全而且人性化的。它可以给学生很好地支持。

关于申请方面：
1. 这个项目不需要提前交APS，但是去德国的所有学生均需要APS完成签证。
2. 申请时间是每年的2月15日至3月底。
3. 出申请结果的时间是4月10日（据我观察，不单是我这届是4月10日，貌似两年前那一届也是这个日子）。回复offer的最晚时限是5月25日。相对别的德国项目来说，这个时间是最正常的了，可能不会和海参党的很多其他项目冲突。不管是和芬兰很多高校，瑞典，挪威，丹麦，荷兰来说都是很合适的，很多项目都是4月出结果，或者回复offer的ddl晚于4月的。
4. 雅思托福要求：托福最低78（单项18），雅思6.0（单项5.5），托福不需要送分，可以送复印件（简直了。。这才叫一切为了学生啊= =）
5. 其他材料，cv，ps，高中毕业证，网申表格。
6. 特殊材料要求：如果专业不是气象，海洋，环境物理等专业的，必须提交一个表格（他们会提供），证明的大学所学的数学和物理的课程达到了90CP。就算是这些专业也必须达到要求，但是不需要提供额外的表格，他们会自己看的。这个要求基本是强制的，这个项目虽然说其他方面都比较简单，比如语言啊，材料啊，APS等方面，但是这一点基本上没的说，必须达标的。但是当然，国内大气系海洋系的学生不用担心的，按他们的标准换算，我们完全可以达标的。
*Estimation of CPs is based upon the ratio given: 14 educational hours represent 1.5 credit points (CP)
这里的educational hours指的就是我们的一节课45分钟，我特地问过的。

再次我把我收集到的一些文件都发这里了，大家可以参考下，欢迎有兴趣的学弟学妹跟帖提问。我会抽空回答。我估计就今年下半年和明年了吧？但是一些问题我回答不上的，直接去问Jennifer，她是大镁铝哦！不信自己去看上面的SICSS的网页，进去就能看到:D 。

附件是他们项目的详细介绍，和一些宣传手册，还有他们转换CP的EXCEL模板。还有他们2年制课程的培养计划。。。课程介绍详细到哭。。。。
对了下面那个CP模板是我用过了的= =上面是我填的信息删掉就好了。。另外我蹭上过两门研究生的课，需要使用表格的可以删掉。
