Essay topic 1
A city wants to help teachers of its high school students (age14-18)improve their teaching. It is considering two plans:
1. Choose a small group of excellent teachers; these teachers will attend a class led by an expert for additional training in how to teach effectively, and they will then come back to their schools and provide that training for other teachers in school.
2. Provide additional training in teaching effectively for high school teachers, using online material that each teacher will study individually.
Which plan do you think is better?
Thesis statement: From my perspective, the first approach will be more effective since teaching is something you can only improve through practice rather than by acquiring some general principle and knowledge. More importantly, teachers, unlike studetns, are more willing to learn by discussions instead of merely accepting knowledge, which is the characteristic of online materials. Besides,off-line course can also help create an environment where teachers could communicate with each other, which could greatly stimulate their interest. From these considerations, the fisrt way is more appropriate for the high school to improve the teaching skill of teachers.

Point: Teaching, just like other practical skills, needs practice to hone.
Information (examples):From our experience as a student, we can find out the truth that there is not necessarily a link between erudite and good teaching skill. Rather, there are many teachers with sufficient professional knowledge who are unable to convey their ideas clearly or devise some effective way to communicate with the students. Some other teachers just can't figure out the complexity degree to which they should keep when explaining questons to the high school students.
Elaboration: For these teachers, who already know all the knowledge and principles they should be equipped with to teach the high school students, what they need is of course not reading some materials and try to digest it by asking some questions online. Instead, what they need the most is to watch how other excellent teachers do in their classes, like how they construct their class structure on the basis of the high school students' mind level and how they stimulate the interest of students by utilizing some interactive games. And he can also benefit a lot by practicing it in classes and have other teachers or experts commenting on it. These approaches can all be adopted in an off-line courses, no matter it's the course held by the experts to some excellent teachers or by these outstanding teachers to the rest of teachers in the high school.
Middle paragraph 2Point: What's more, teachers as adults, may be more apt to accpet the way of discussing instead of just receiving knowledge, by which they could elaborate their confusions and find out the answers or find some new perspectives to their original answers.
Information: Admittedly, there are many teachers who are always ready to acquire new knowledge. But there are also a not small amount number of teachers who are rather confident about their own teaching skills and can't see the defects of it. So, an one-size-for-all model without first discussing with them and realizing the poossible flaws in their teaching practice would hardly be effetive. Besides, in an off-line class, teachers can always adjust their content according to the response of listeners, making the teaching a rather flexible process which can hardly be acheived through online teaching.
Elaboration: By better gearing the content of courses to the needs and present level of the listeners, these courses can achieve their purpose more effectively since it can best stimulate the listeners' interest and drive them to learn.
Middle paragraph 3:point: Besides adjusting the courses to the demand all the listeners, bringing all the teachers together is also a good way to arouse the curiosity of them since it can help creat a community where teachers could learn from each other.
Information:It's well-known that nowdays the education system is competition-oriented, not only for the students but also for the teaches. so most of the teachers won't have the chance to communicate with each other about improving teaching skills when at school as they are competing with each other for promotion. This could do great harm to the teaching improvement of the school as a whole, since it precludes the information exchange between teachers. But attending courses together will creat an environment where listeners need to exchange ideas, which can definitely help teacher to reflect on their own teaching practice and accelerate the generation of novel ideas and approaches in the teaching process.
