103. "The study of history has value only to the extent that it is relevant to our daily lives." [34]
103. 只有在历史研究与我们的日常生活相关的前提下，历史研究才有价值。


The value of study in history has long been a favorite topic for debate within a society. Questions such as “What is the meaning of research history?” and “Is this a work of value?” have been around for many years. As my part, past history is thought of only a value of relation to the future, and this value is wholly one of convenience. Not only the part which is relation to the daily life, but also the other part that seems already beyond the day-to-day life has their respective meaning and value.

In fact, we have to admit the fact that there is a significant value of study history which part relevant to our daily lives. As it were, this study somehow is being considered of the most directly contribute to the development of human beings. For example, the lessons learned during all of the past wars can make for more effective wartime leadership by avoiding mistakes made by past commanders. From the ancient Chinese author Sun Tzu's book "The Art of War", today's military commanders and even business leaders gather valuable information that allows them to operate more efficiently and effectively.

Another example is that by studying history, one can acknowledge the subject, which he is engaging in, of the overall process of evolvement and then to deduce its developmental trends in the future. In other words, that is necessary to every researcher, who works on a particular field of thought, knowledge or activity, to study the previous experiences remained by his predecessors. On one hand, he should to accumulate enough essential knowledge for his research. On the other hand, from those exited experience and knowledge, the researcher could be enlightened of his inspirations to create new ideas, or to employ his imagination to reform the old system of knowledge. It is an inevitable step to the improvement of nearly every academic domain, even to the development of human society.

Despite many obvious advantages of those studies above, it is not without its baffles. Nowadays, with the rapidly development of info-technology, scientists pay their no effort to obtain enormous information and to extend unlimited technologies. Sometimes, those hard works appeared certain functions which indeed against the natural humanity. For instance, the naissance of nuclear weapons, the try of clone a man and the abuse of energy sources, etc.. All studies of history relation to daily life are failing to prevent those evils going ahead.

Therefore, we begin to realize that these ever ignored studies of history, which beyond its effect on daily life, are useful to make up that shortage. The study of history in sociology, mentioned at the beginning, is a picture of the whole development of human society: The origin of human beings, the developmental rule and trends of the whole social history. Moreover, as a result of this study, it will take a large number of valuable questions to ponder of every person: What we are doing? What we are pursuing?


It must be noted that we could not confined our eyes of studying history in certain narrow domain, in which it seems directly influence our daily life. Even though they could not be mirrored immediately and clearly by ordinary life, other realms of studying history also have profound meanings. Consequently, the better appreciate to those non-mainstream values of studying history, the majority could the more active support to the whole study of history.
