今年申请以及11年以后准备申请的同学来这里报个到,大家以后好交流。相关专业包括结构,岩土,桥隧,材料,水资源与环境,水利与海洋工程,港口与航道工程,工程与信息管理,建筑物理等等的。。。以后待补充
目前本专业发展有点青黄不接,各自为政的感觉。

Geotechnical Engineering

岩土与环境岩土工程 Geotechnical engineering and geoenvironmental engineering,这个学科分支与其它学科密不可分,不像结构那样比较独立。岩土工程简称就是研究土的学科,是包括地上与地下的土的研究,因此也与地质学,水利学科有关,有的也涉及到Geoinformatics,因此研究范围比较广泛,要深入了解透也比较难。目前岩土工程学科发展还不是很完善,但是现在研究也有点止步不前的感觉,这与这个学科研究的本身有关,土在自然界分布中具有不均匀性,不确定性,以及地域性,所以造成学科的发展受很多因素限制。与其说其是一门科学,而不入说是一门实际应用。从这门学科创立至今,很多公式与定理都是定性而成,甚至是假设,反倒假设作的很好。而不像数学物理化学等学科具有非常准确性和精确度,这门学科的误差甚至20% 都是可以被接受的。
1.学科发展
这门学科的发展源于欧洲,其实最早在中国,只是欧洲以公式化定义了一些物理量,并且很快流通起来。

Terzaghi于1920S编写了本学科的第一本教科书
最初的研究发展主要停留在运用基本土工测试仪器测试土体(无粘性土如砂土,粘性土如粘土)的抗剪强度,为土坡以及地基基础等比较实际的工程设计提供计算参数。当年U.S. Army也就是大家熟知的美国陆军设计团为了当时战备需要,需要建立大量的土工建筑物,因此土工设计也显得尤其重要。




2.目前研究热点

本专业的研究归属性特别强,即分类型,各自导师培养的新的faculty基本上延续了本导师之前的研究方向,并且不断发扬光大,创造新的学科增长点。

大概研究方向如下:

(a) Soil Characteristics and Laboratory Testing,

(b) Foundations Engineering;

(c) Excavation and Earth Retaining Structures;

(d) Slope stability;

(e) Geoenrionmental related-topics;

(f) Soil Dynamics and Earthquake Engineering;

(g) Ground Improvement and Geosynthentics;

(h) Unsaturated Soils

由于土木发展比较好的学校本来就比较少,不像计算机等学科只要是个学科就有的,比如本学科在YALE, HAVARD,CALTECH本学科基本灭迹,虽然上世纪30年代曾经有过。

目前本学科比较厉害的学校主要是美国有UCB,MIT, UIUC, TexasAM, UTaustin, UMichigan, Purdue, UCDavis,Virginia Tech, GeorgiaTech这些属于师资发展比较齐备的,参照2010年土木专业排名,其他学校虽然发表论文不少,但规模还是偏小,因为土木系本身就很小,涉及到本学科的Faculty就更少,有的土木系甚至没有此方向的faculty.这也跟所在学校的发展策略有关。目前任职于各大高校的基本上也就是这几个学校的毕业生。。。UCB堪称本学科Faculty的摇篮。加拿大的岩土发展总体都比较强,发展比较突出的学校有University of Alberta, University of British Columbia, University of Western Ontario, University of Mcnaster, University of Calgary, Carleton University, Queen's University,University of Saskatchewan英国的有比较传统的Cambridge University, Oxford University, Imperial College, Dundee University, Machester University, University of Bristol, University of Edinburgh, University of Nottiham,等等。

综上所述,其实扳开手指头数数,本专业的学校也就那么多。

3.各大热点学校faculty分析

MIT:传说中的大牛校,本学科鼻祖Terzaghi坐镇,当年连Casagrande这样的牛人都只是给他当实验助手的,还有Peck教授。现存的仅有LADD教授还算比较资深的,当年坐果广泛的BBC研究,积累了大量土工测试经验和技术,如今是emertius prof了。现在比较活跃的是其系主任,Prof.Andrew Whittle教授,由土体本构模型研究出家,现在研究方向已经转向大气介质科学研究,造诣很深。另外一位教授既是Prof.Einstein,研究岩石力学及地下工程的,毕业于苏黎世联邦理工学院,据说是大名鼎鼎爱因斯坦的亲戚,有待考证。还有 Prof.Germanine,擅长土工测试技术,新近出版了Germaine, J. T., and Germaine, A. V. (2009); Geotechnical Laboratory Measurements for Engineers, John Wiley & Sons, Inc., ISBN 978-0-470-15093-1,有兴趣的朋友可以参考以下。


UCB:牛人众多的学校。与MIT东西海岸遥相呼应,似乎他们的faculty也是互派的。下面列出他们主要的active faculties.他家的faculty数量也算是我见过所有大学中最多的,规模之宏大,可见一斑。当然毕业生也众多,还有若干迁居至VirgirnaTech的老教授,此乃后话。

总体来说UCB的师资整容是超级豪华的,岩土与岩石力学两方面都有涉及,还包括若干交叉学科,如石油工程。毕业生也深受job market亲睐。

UIUC
工科中的牛校,他家的土木强的不同于其它学校,是各个方面都很到位,师资力量也很足。
Gabriel Fernandez 讲师,
Youssef Hashash教授,本硕博毕业自MIT, 1992年博士,在工业界工作过一段时间,98年加入 UIUC,研究涉及地下工程及基坑开挖,岩土体材料本构模拟,也进行一些软件的开发。
James H. Long副教授,本硕博毕业自UTaustin,1984年博士,研究设计挡土结构及软件案开发
Gholamreza Mesri教授,本硕博斗毕业自UIUC, 1969年博士,是PECK教授的弟子,与Karl Terzaghi and Ralph B. Peck of 编著了第三版土力学实践 Third Edition of Soil Mechanics in Engineering Practice, Wiley Interscience.研究主要集中在土体基本特性。
Scott M. Olson副教授,本硕博doou毕业自UIUC,2001年博士,研究涉及土体液化及土坡稳定分析,土工合成材料
Timothy D. Stark教授,1987年VIRGINATECH毕业,DUNCAN的弟子,硕士毕业自UCB,上面OLSON 教授的导师,涉及岩土动力学研究,土坝研究



Purdue:土木中的传统强校,由于受学校总体排名影响而使排名有点清黄不接的味道。实际实力是很强的,6位全职active faculty。

带头人非Rodrigo Salgado教授莫属,毕业自UCB,研究范围涉及土体基本特性与本构规律,基础工程,岩土数值分析。
Antonio Bobet 教授研究领域不太清楚,毕业自MIT的Eistein教授门下,一如爱因斯坦的低调,研究涉及地下及地质岩石工程。
Philippe L. Bourdeau 副教授毕业自瑞士苏黎世联邦理工学院,研究岩土可靠性理论及其工程应用,土工合成材料等等。
Monica Prezzi 副教授算是Salgado教授的师妹,出自UCB,也是来自巴西。研究范围同S教授。
Maria Caterina C. Santagata 副教授毕业自MIT,Whittle教授的弟子,研究实验土力学等等。
Joseph V. Sinfield助理教授也毕业自MIT,真是服了这个学校了,Eistein教授的弟子。。。研究试验测试仪器开发等等,方向比较偏僻。

西北大学计算力学很强大,岩土也不弱,但是不温不火的样子。
Andrade, Jose 助理教授,刚刚STANFORD毕业,BOja 教授的弟子,当然是做计算土力学的了,跟西北的强项也很吻合
Finno, Richard教授,Stanford University毕业,不知道当时斯坦福有谁,Clough,貌似。。现在貌似只剩BOJAj教授一人了。。。还是做计算力学的,Finno教授的强项是开发了一个平面应变仪器,土工测试技术也很强。




Stanford:
他家各个FACULTY研究都十分广泛,比较偏向GEO的大概是Ronaldo I. Borja教授,毕业自本校,研究bifiurcation分叉理论,十分抽象。
可怜,只有一位教授了。。。。大家也知道STANFORD的环境是最厉害的。大概这样也拉了一下他家在CIVIL的排名。当然我们不能就一个分支学科来判定土木整体的强弱。

GeorgiaTech:
他家的师资力量也算比较强大的,好歹有个geosystem group.

说完了Geogiratech,就不得不说Virginia Tech了。岩土挖了不少当年UCB的翘楚,造就了今日的辉煌。也是土木设置十分完整的系
不做具体介绍,南方的大学。光是DUNCAN和MITCHELL就是大炮级别人物,教科书的编写者。

Cornell:
可能好多人还没有注意到,他家的岩土研究虽然没有别家作的惊天地泣鬼神,但是自有一番特色,如同江南小家碧玉。
Fred Kulhawy教授大多数应该很了解,特别是做岩土可靠度分析的,它的得意弟子新加坡国立大学方国光教授在目前岩土界十分活跃,思维也十分敏捷。
Thomas O'Rourke教授也很有名,1975年毕业自UIUC, 主要从事管线研究,
Harry Stewart教授自1982年毕业于Massachusetts at Amherst,也是涉及管道与土的相互作用研究。
Charles Trautmann1983年毕业自本校,是土木系adjunct副prof.
总而言之,康奈尔的土木系如同一些精英学校一般,小巧却十分吸引人的目光。



Umichigan:6位faculty,大多数毕业自UCB,传统岩土强校。
2位荣休教授这里不再说明,大多数不再招生和做研究了。
Adda Athanasopoulos-Zekkos毕业自UCB, 是SEED的弟子,研究飓风的,也是很有实际研究应用前景的课题。
Dimitrios Zekkos早前一位教授3年毕业于UCB的,Bray的弟子,研究垃圾填埋土性质的,环境岩土方向。
Radoslaw L. Michalowski这个教授是波兰人,研究涉及滑坡与土体基本本构规律,经常是一个人自己发表论文,自娱自乐,看来很享受研究型的。
Roman D.Hryciw毕业自西北,曾经担任过ASCE的主编,研究领域自然不言而喻。





4.期刊与论文

目前本学科的期刊数量比较少,而且还有些还未被列入SCI收录系列。期刊数量少,每期所列论文篇数少,造成本学科交流很成问题。论文的出版日期与投稿日期也相差很远,更甚的差别2年,所以这个学科也不免被人笑话成“又土又木”。下面列出目前最主流的几大期刊

比较general的,也就是大家所说的四大期刊,前些日子一个机构还就此评比了本专业的排名

Geotextile and Geomembranes, Elevsier,国际土工织物协会主办的论文,发表土工织物以及合成物方面的论文,涉及地基处理以相关
Computers and Geotechnics, Elesvier  侧重于计算岩土力学的论文
International Journal for Numerical and Analytical Methods in Geomechanics, Wiley 主要是数值模拟计算方法的论文,每篇文章都很长
Soil Dynamics and Earthquake Engineering 主要是土工动力学与岩土地震工程方面的论文

Landslides, 主要是国际滑坡协会主办的这方面的论文

加拿大岩土牛校介绍

加拿大岩土工程一直在世界上占有重要一席之地,不少牛人都来自此国。国际三大岩土期刊能分得一杯羹,可见一斑。比较传统的强校有University of Alberta, UBC, UWO,其它学校零星也有几个Faculty从事岩土研究,当然不可能跟他们比。话说,国外的规模肯定不比国内,国内同济的地下系一个系的人就是人家一个土木环境系CEE的若干倍。另外加国一般土木系都只是CIVILENGINEERING, 没有完全继承US的传统。目前已知改了CEE的貌似ALBERTA一家。



University of Alberta,加拿大岩土传统牛小,工程院院士Morgenstern教授坐镇于此,不知道摩根斯坦教授的自己google去,90年代中期担任国际土协主席。我国陈祖禹院士即为其高足,两人联合提出改进的土坡稳定分析方法。著名的非饱和土之父Frelund教授,浙江大学光标讲座教授,即为其高足,可见摩根斯坦造诣之一般。该校有良好的岩土传统,应该来说排名第一当之无愧。

Dr. Alireza Bayat 助理教授,研究道路工程中的岩土工程问题,Pavement Engineering 和Underground Trenchless Construction
Dr. Rick Chalaturnyk 教授,研究涉及Geological Storage of Greenhouse Gases以及Reservoir Geomechanics。方向比较新颖,关于二氧化碳封装与储存技术以及绿色能源。
Dr. Dave Chan 教授,擅长计算岩土力学,尤其是有限元,应用在泥石流滑坡分析中,这也是该校一直以来的强项。
Dr. Derek Martin 教授,研究涉及核废料处理与废弃物风险评估
Dr. Dave Sego 教授,目前从事Oil Sands Tailings Research ,算是与工业界密切研究的,从事尾矿坝等的研究
Dr. Ania Ulrich 教授,从事环境岩土力学研究,目前研究兴趣为Transformation of organic compounds by microorganism 。
上面几位是活跃的Faculty, 该校荣休教授也是个个都很厉害。Norbert R. Morgenstern教授自然不必介绍,还有个ROBERTSON教授曾经执教该校,后来出去自己开了间公司,从事CPTU等原位技术测试咨询工作了。

说完了UALBERTA, 下面不得不提一下UBC,其岩土研究水平与ualberta不分伯仲,只是可能没有类似Morgerstern教授这样的大牛出现。该校现在岩土学科发展趋势根UALBERTA有点类似,出现青黄不接的现象,相信也是大多数传统学校的毛病,一直找不到合适的Faculty,加上政府不怎么支持重视,导致学科逐渐萎缩。

R. Jonathan Fannin 毕业牛津,从事土工合成材料研究
John A. Howie 1991年毕业于UBC,目前从事先辈留下来的土工测试技术研究
Mahdi Taiebat 2008年新进的FACULTY,从事计算土动力学方面的研究,在土体本构规律有自己的造诣。
Dharma Wijewickreme 毕业自本校,从事土体基本特性测试技术研究,以及泥石流土坡稳定研究。


Peter Byrne  从事土体液化研究,本系建有离心机,Richard Campanella 元老教授,从事土体基本特性试验,尤其擅长粘土研究,发表过若干经典文章。Liam Finn 教授的强项是土动力学,著名的Finn模型相信从事土动力学的同学都知道。Yogi Vaid 教授也算是一名骨灰级别的土体测试技术专家,建有与IC媲美的HCA测试仪器,发表了大量关于散粒体研究论著。 总值UBC的荣休教授根UALBERTA有得一拼的。




Queen'sUNIVERSITY皇后大学
该校岩土规模不大,但坐镇的四位教授都极其强大。该校建有Geoengineering Centre..

Wan, Richard,曾经研究散立体材料,与法国联系较多,现在从事石油方面的岩土力学研究,Freezing Processes in Tissues,Oil sands等。
Dr. Ron Wong教授任该系系主任,ALBERTA1986年毕业生,从事岩石石油环境岩土力学与环境岩土工程研究
Dr. Jocelyn Grozic  ALBERTA1999年毕业,副教授,研究兴趣gassy soils的力学特性以及数值模拟以及近海岩土力学及废弃物处置Marine geotechniques including offshore geohazards
总体来说该系研究实力不算那么出众,与该校的牌子比较起来。

由于都位于首都渥太华,University  of Ottawa与Carleton大学联合建有一个岩土工程研究中心,该中心有LAW K.T.教授,加拿大工程院院士,
Siva Sivathayalan毕业于ubc的vaid教授门下,从事土体基本特性测试技术,砂土液化动力分析
Mohammad Rayhani助理教授毕业于UOW,从事垃圾填埋场以及固体废弃物处理等方面的研究
其它教授在此不作一一介绍了。


McMaster University
GUO Peijie, 擅长岩土有限元计算,尤其是土体本构规律研究,是 Calgary的Wan, Richard足下,
Stan Pietruszczak,波兰教授,从事计算岩土力学研究,生物力学
Dieter F. Stolle教授毕业自Western Ontario大学,擅长有限元分析岩土工程,是该校资深教授。


University of western ontario
该校建有GRC研究中心,K. Y. Lo相信看过粘土方面论文的都见过这个名字,著名华裔烟土力学专家。UCL博士毕业,目前担任该中心主任一职,仍活跃在研究界。
H. El Naggar毕业于Ph.D. Civil Engineering, University of Western Ontario,从事管线与基础工程方面研究,以及地震工程研究。
J.I. Gerhard教授毕业于Queen's UNIVERSITY, 从事环境烟土力学以及污染物介质迁移方面的相关研究工作。
T.A. Newson教授从事离心机技术研究,英国移居过来的。

Australia:
澳洲岩土力学发展属于新兴发展起来的,多数来自英国优秀的Faculty,其它还有来自美国,泰国,日本等等。这就是一个移民国家的真实写照。

University of Sydney:
之前有个prof.Poulos的,现在是该校荣休教授,主攻桩基础的,还编著了相关方面的基本书,后来去了Coffey Geosciences 做咨询工作了。

澳洲岩土研究实力最强的学校,MarkRandolph 教授坐镇,年轻有为的White教授也任教于该校,其COFS远近闻名。该校是有名的PAPER水校,仅次于HKUST。
Prof.Mark Randolph,曾经任教Cambridge,后来移到澳洲,大大大水王。很年轻时就做过Rankine讲座。目前研究海底管道,ANCHOR等。
Professor David White,剑桥Bolton M.D教授弟子,新一代水王

英国牛校介绍

英国的岩土力学在世界上开了个好头,也一直与US叫嚣着一决高下,从有效应力定义就可见一斑。随着大不列颠帝国的衰落以及其它各国的迎头赶上,该国的岩土工程地位受到来自其它发展中国家的冲击。不过其积累的长期研究经验是其它国家所不具备的。
