42) Students should always question what they are taught instead of accepting it passively.
Write a response in which you discuss the extent to which you agree or disagree with the statement and explain your reasoning for the position you take. In developing and supporting your position, you should consider ways in which the statement might or might not hold true and explain how these considerations shape your position.

The speaker asserts that students should always question what they are taught instead of accepting it passively. I primarily agree with it; nevertheless, there exists flaws because the speaker overlooks some adverse effects that come along with advantages.

Question, in that it help students acquire more knowledge and skills, should be favorable. In the first place, question can motivate students’ interests in some fields, and help them foster the spirit of researching. Secondly, it is humans’ instinct to search for knowledge, and question is a perfect method to acquire knowledge. It is very easy to find an example. Newton, the greatest scientist in the field of Classis Mechanics, had questioned about why the apple followed toward the ground but not the sky when he was a kid, and it is the question that galvanized him to research it, consequently, he created the Law of Gravity in his letter life. Moreover, Humans are not containers for accepting passively, but conscious creatures for getting by themselves. And question can help students to study on their own initiatives, then get knowledge.

Question, on the other hand, sometimes bring about many unnecessary problems. First of all, it is difficult for students to understand a lot of profound knowledge because of their finite understandabilities and narrow scopes of knowledge that they have handled. In this case, too many questions will not help them acquire more knowledge, but make them more confounded, which is immense detrimental for students to study better. Besides, when students are taking a class in university, there are not too much time for professor to pass on knowledge to students. In this case, too many questions will slow down the progress of teaching, which make students handle less knowledge in one class.

Thus, in order to response to these problems ,students should subordinate some principles when they question for something: First, some fundamental knowledge, such as one plus one equals two, should be indoctrinated to students without any question. Secondly, students should question the knowledge they do not understand without cutting off the continuity of teaching. The last but not least, students should handle the appropriate way to question.

In sum, although there still exists a big debate about the relationship between acquiring on their own initiatives and accepting passively. Question, to a large degree, is favorable for students to study. And if the students can handle the correct methods to question, it will exert a better influence.
