接上一问，Nick君因为LSAT非常高背景也好，是不是YP的风险比较大？那如果LSAT其实刚过某所学校的75%，这样还需要写why essay表忠心嘛？主要担心why essay写不到位画蛇添足，多谢呀！

先回答第二个问题，我表示非常怀念暑假，暑假的时候整个法学院都是我们70个人的啊！然后整个安村也没啥人，去bar, club什么的都不用排队啊！昨天晚上！打Michigan State的前夜，所有bar/club排队时间都在半个小时以上，一些大的简直是1个小时啊。。。

anyway, 正经点。summer starter的好处大概有这个好处（除了你说的早毕业之外）

1. 如果你想进biglaw的话，第三个学期可以自由选课，也就是说你的1L成绩能够靠第三个学期狂拉，有很多upper class的平均考试成绩都是A-,也就是3.7-3.8的GPA, 还有很多clinic是全部拿A(4.0)，所以这个优势真的是蛮大的.

2. 有机会可以take one semester off, 去实习啊旅行啊什么的。还有一个就是可以2月份的时候考bar, 如果有可能的话可以提前一点去biglaw工作。但是clerkship的话和OPT有冲突，这个有点复杂，过段时间再具体讲。public interest的话就更好了，因为PI主要是prior experience and commitment，所以能够take one semester off去干点其他事情很好

3. 暑假这群人真的是很好的一个group,因为那个时候村子里面太安静了，所以大家都只能在这个圈子里面玩，所以大家的感情都还挺好的。

4. summer的话只有两门课，一门Torts, 一门Civ Pro, 课业压力不大，基本上周五都没课，所以我们暑假真的是玩得学得很开心。Torts是最简单的一门课，Civ Pro对于以后的课业的重要性慢慢就体现出来了。

还有很多很多，真的，我真心觉得summer starter简直是不能更好的一个项目了！

好，第二个问题

大概一届有10-15人的样子拿到Darrow, 中国学生不会有什么优势的，小北能够拿到是因为有很多之前的学位然后个人经历很丰富，北大的一位学姐能够拿到是因为LSAT确实很高。所以，“中国人”这个label对于拿奖来说没什么优势。当然，今年另外一个中国JD （美本）也拿到了Darrow，她GPA很高就是了。

至于硬指标的话，感觉也不会太硬，只不过173肯定是要的。其实最主要的还是你的其他方面的经历了。Darrow很想要diverse的学生吧。当然，如果你是美本，GPA/LSAT够高，拿Darrow的可能性也蛮大的。

legal practice当然可以作为一个切入点，但是问题就是基本上所有学校都有这个，于是写这个方面的话其实没有太多说服力。
我当时的切入点大概有这些，你大概看一下吧，看能不能给你一点灵感什么的
1. Hathaway在密歇根，自己对refugee law的兴趣
2. Catherine Mackinnon的sex equality的研究也很让我感兴趣
3. UofM Chinese studies center
4. Michigan football culture
5. 和之前校友的对话让我真心很喜欢这个学校

我个人就是觉得why essay就写得私人化一点，不要简简单单从网站上面抄下来。

我申 UVA 没写 WHY essay 也入了。不是必须的。

UVA 每年都有大陆本科的 JD 学生。但无工作经验、没有美国学位的陆本不会超过一个（至少在我知道的年级里）。

多谢多谢，这么快就回复了，没想到早了一个暑假开学多了这么多优势，现在开始认真考虑summer starter的问题了~

追问一个：如果是陆本，有无可能拿到federal court的clerkship？是否有不可逾越的技术性障碍？不好意思最近在看supreme ambitions这本小说，加上之前钢梁那本《现在开庭》的深刻影响，依然对judicial clerkship非常向往，如果您了解相关信息，还望分享。

谢了，一楼的照片让人沸腾，我很喜欢football，此前的SNL也是一集不落的看完，你真的为Mich做了很好的宣传~

Rememeber：Never stop playing the whole game. It means you have to gut it out every minute of the the time you have. In the end, luck might just be on your side.

你好，最近我也在查找关于federal clerkships的材料，大概情况是对于Non-citizens，满足以下任一个条件才可以：

Persons Owing Allegiance to the United States. Nationals of American Samoa, Swains Island, and the Northern Mariana Islands are considered persons who owe allegiance to the United States and may be hired as federal clerks.

Persons Meeting the Requirements of 8 U.S.C. 1408. Non-citizens who meet the requirement set forth in 8 U.S.C. 1408 may be hired as federal clerks. That statute sets forth a number of circumstances where persons are considered United States nationals, but not citizens, at birth: (1) A person born in an outlying possession of the United States on or after the date of formal acquisition of such possession; (2) A person born outside the United States and its outlying possessions of parents, both of whom are nationals but not citizens of the United States and have had a residence in the United States or one of its outlying possessions prior to the birth of such person; (3) A person of unknown parentage found in an outlying possession of the United States while under the age of five years, until shown, prior to his attaining the age of 21 years, not to have been born in such outlying possession; and (4) A person born outside the United States and its outlying possessions of parents one of whom is an alien and the other a national, but not a citizen, of the United States who, prior to the birth of such person, was physically present in the United States or its outlying possessions for a period or periods totaling not less than seven years in any continuous period of ten years (a) during which the national parent was not outside the United States or its outlying possessions for a continuous period of more than one year, and (b) at least five years of which were after attaining the age of 14 years. These nationals may be hired as federal law clerks.

Persons Admitted as Refugees or Granted Asylum. Persons who have been admitted as refugees or granted asylum and who have filed a declaration of intention to become a lawful permanent resident and then a citizen when eligible may be hired as federal clerks.

Permanent Residents Seeking Citizenship. Lawful permanent residents who are seeking citizenship as outlined in 8 U.S.C. 1324b(a)(3)(B) are eligible to be hired as federal clerks.

Clerkships Outside of the Continental United States. The restrictions on the hiring of non-citizens does not apply to clerkships in Alaska, Hawaii, the Virgin Islands, Puerto Rico, Guam, or the Northern Mariana Islands.

但是对于国际学生可以参加Volunteer Law Clerks.
Non-citizens may still work as unpaid volunteers for federal judges.

其他的情况就是state了～有一些州是不用身份的。
