Waterloo cs mmath coursework data science项目有人上过吗？

如题，这个项目好像是新出的，不知道有没有人知道质量如何...
课程如下：
One foundational course to be completed in the Fall (entry) term.

• STAT 845 Statistical Concepts for Data Science (for non- STAT major background students)

Two common core courses:

• STAT 847 Exploratory Data Analysis

• CS 651 Data-Intensive Distributed Computing

One required breadth course:

• CS 648 Database System Implementation

• CS 680 Introduction to Machine Learning

• CS 685 Machine Learning Theory: Statistical and Computational Foundations

之后再从“a list of selected graduate courses in the 600, 700, and 800-level series in Computer Science, and the 800 and 900-level series in Statistics”当中选四门课。

总之，这个data science的coursework值得上吗？请求各位大佬给我出出主意！

yes.
a standard master in computational statistics. (good mixture between stat and CS)
given that it is waterloo faculty math, and all courses are standard CS / Stat course, it cant go wrong.

of course, if you hv a sufficient, it will be better to get waived from STAT 845 and CS 651........and go with the more advanced courses.




P.S. of course, you need a solid CS and stat background in order to make this useful (which is kind of an requirement for admission anyway)

CS degree is not a must, but you need the core of it.

需要cs本科或者stat本科...
这个专业是分两种，一种是MMATH CS in DS, 一种是MMATH STAT in DS...
两种的录取要求不同但是最后上的课都是一样

滑铁卢有点特别，他家cs math不分家，你要是数学，cs专业都可以。
其他专业就要看你的统计or cs功底了，如果你要补的cs/stat课超过两门，就不要你了。

就以這個MMath來說, 除了core了的CS 651 Data-Intensive Distributed Computing之外, 要再選四至五個左右的CS course, which one is important, and why? (assuming around 2 to 3 course out of 8 has gone to the stat stuffs..)

as you said, it is a new program, who knows?

but given this is Waterloo, with co-op option, solid CS+stat coursework,
and data science is really heat recently, I don't see any reason that it will be easier to be admitted than the standard CS / stat mmath.
