我觉得应该翻译成 “甚至” 吧……

生命体复杂性不断增加的概念在生物进化学家眼中具有辉煌的历史，甚至连外行人都毫不犹豫地认为这种模式适用于地球的生命史。

我觉得这么翻译貌似说得通……/笑哭

生命体复杂性不断增加的概念在生物进化学家眼中具有__的历史，就连外行人都毫不犹豫地认为这种模式适用于地球的生命史。

从逗号后面的句子可以判断这个concept是被广泛接受，
A. an illustrious: well known, respected, and admired for past achievements.

E. a distinguished: successful, authoritative, and commanding great respect.

根据逗号前后的句子意思，这里的 and yet表示递进关系。

所以建议大家还是要读懂句子，不然把这里的yet 看成取反。那就麻烦了。

改编的原文在 Dinosaur Odyssey: Fossil Threads in the Web of Life， 2011版33页： The concept of increasing complexity, or progress, has a contentious history among biologists. Yet when viewed in a limited sense..... there can be little doubt this patter applies to the history of life.
