答案是debunk。是因为“someone had to go to the other extreme”里的other吗？但是也可以理解成前文的glowing的那群人呀，因为句子是such...that应该23空是取同的？
or 可能和the other extreme有关？  the other.. 说明有2类情况，一类highly praise， the other 就去attack，，二者的行为是不同的？

不知道这样理解对不对！求小伙伴指点迷津！！thanks in advance!!!

这句话的基调就是说W was legendary, authors sought to uncover his within。

楼上说的有道理，所谓的取同取反标志对简单句有效，具体问题还是需要结合语境去判断。

感谢以希！不过查了debunk，发现解释只有“When you debunk something you show it to be false.”，也就是debunk 假的东西... as being pretentious, false, or exaggerated:
针对第三点，是说other extreme=author 的ignore吗？所以去debunk？还是不是很懂 说不通啊
W 都so  deified别人还要去揭穿他的legend？还是很迷糊... ...

3000里面的debunk给的是to reveal the true nature of=uncover。
这就跟人们追星的心理有点像，除了光鲜外表还想看看他平时的生活本质

other extreme指的就是上面的ignore and uncover,  因为另一个极端应该是chase  glowing myths
