在给我的e'mail里面说的一些关于check的情况:
Hello Freeking,
Thank you for this e-mail. Let me help you understand the process. When
a consular officer sends off for a security check, it is a good thing.
If your application was going to be denied - they would have denied you a
visa at the interview (instead of conducting the check). The advisory opinion
means that they support you coming to the US as a student, but they must
go through the security check. As long as the security check finds nothing
abnormal about your background, you will get a visa.
The security checks are triggered by a number of factors, including: field
of study/research (certain engineering specialties can be considered
potentially dangerous); applicant's name (it may be similar to someone the US
government recognizes as a criminal);and nationality.Given the range of issues
inherent to these potential triggers, the security checks are a standard
procedure in reviewing visa applicants across the globe.
Of course, the issue that understandably makes you anxious is the time it
takes to get the security check completed (so that you can get the visa
stamp and come to the US for your studies). This is the hard thing to predict
. As I understand it, the status (and timing) of the check is not something
that they share.
In my experience, security checks (especially for Chinese citizens) rarely
take less than a month. Your interview was only on May 15th. If you have
not heard back from the US consulate in Shanghai by JUNE 26th, please e-
mail e directly and I will call on your behalf. Until then, intervention
would be considered premature.
As the semester begins at the end of August, there is still time, so try
not to worry.
Thank you!
