-----------------------------------------------------------------------
Q: How do I apply?
A: You will find information on how to apply and the link to the
application form on the web site (open November 1 until January 15)
http://www.chalmers.se/masters.html
Q: What is the time period to apply for admission to the programme/s?
A: November 1 - January 15.
Q: I missed the deadline. Can I send my application for next year's
programme now?
A: Sorry but No, we accept applications for the current period only.
Any application submitted prior to November 1 will be deleted. Due to
updates in the webapplication regarding new Masterprogrammes and new
serial number (part of the reference number) no applications submitted
prior to November 1 2006 (start of application period 2007) will be
accepted or processed further.
Q: May I apply for admission even if I will graduate after the
application deadline?
A: Yes, but you need to fulfil the entry requirements listed at:
http://www.chalmers.se/en/sectio ... /entry-requirements
Notice, all applicants must also meet special requirements for each
programme.
Q: What do Chalmers require to issue the Master of Science (MSc)
Diploma?
A: Work is underway due to the Bologna process and this also affects
the university degrees. Updated information will be available on
Chalmers' website continuously:
http://www.chalmers.se/en/sectio ... _dire/degree_system
At the time being, decisions have been made confirming that:
Students who have successfully completed a two-year Master's programme
(120 ECTS) will be awarded a 'Master of Science'. Please note that
this degrees do not correspond to the Swedish degree 'Civilingenjor'.
Q: May I apply even if my English test result cannot reach Chalmers
before January 31?
A: Yes, you may apply, but all necessary documents (issued after
January 15) must have reached Chalmers by March 15.
Q: Does the English test result has to be sent directly from the test
organisation, or is my own copy sufficient?
A: The TOEFL-tests has to be sent by the test organisation. The
TOEFL-code for Chalmers is 0050. The TOEFL report of scores is valid
only if received directly from Educational testing Service, copies are
not accepted. You may send a copy of the IELTS or Cambridge
CPE/CAE-test, but the original has to be brought and showed at the
Admissions office, if you are requested to do so. The TOIEC-test is
not sufficent for Academic purposes in Sweden.
Q: How do I calculate and show my GPA in the web application form?
A: Please follow the instructions available when using the
'Help'-function within the web application.
Q: What is an 'officially certified copy'?
A: The copy is proved to be identical with the original document by
signature by a public authority, e.g. the Registrar at the
university/university college or the Mayor.
Q: Is there a template for the letters of recommendation?
A: No, there is no template available and it is not required. The
letters should be personal.
Q: May I change my choice of programme?
A: No, you may not change your choice/s after the end of the
application period (January 15). If you want to change your choice/s
after submitting an application you must open a new account (delete
the old one) and submit a new application and send all required
documents enclosed in the new application package. You may not change
programme even if admitted to Chalmers.
Q: Do I have to apply even if I already am a student at Chalmers?
A: Yes, you have to apply for a Master programme but students
presently enrolled at a 'civilingenjor' or 'Arkitekt'-programme at
Chalmers should not apply by using the web application referred to
here. Please contact your Student Centre for more updated information.
Q: As a student from another Swedish university; Can I apply?
A: Yes you can. Please note that students with formal qualifications
on an undergraduate level from other Swedish universities (than
Chalmers) should only apply through www.studera.nu (March 15 - April
15).
Q: Has my application arrived at Chalmers?
A: As soon as your web application is registered an e-mail message is
generated and sent automatically to you. We are sorry to say; Office
of admissions does not answer individual inquiries on arrival of
applications. If you have not received the automatic e-mail reply, it
means that you have not submitted your web application correctly or
successfully. You will also receive an e-mail telling you that there
has been a change of status when the printed version of the
application has been received by Chalmers (this applies only if the
application is received no later then January 31).
Only correctly submitted digital application followed by the printed
application form and the documents verifying formal qualifications of
general and specific eligibility will be processed. The application is
regarded as complete and valid when Chalmers receives the printed
application form and the documents verifying formal qualifications of
general and specific eligibility.
Q: How and when do I know if I am admitted?
A: Admitted students will be notified in April and May by e-mail and
an official letter of admission sent by post. Non-admitted students
will only be notified by e-mail.
Q: If I am admitted but cannot make it this year, can I attend next
year's programme?
A: No, you will have to apply for admission next year as well. You do
have to submit a new web application, print and sign it and enclose
the original letter of admission. You do not have to send all the
documents once more if you were admitted in 2006 and do apply for
admission in 2007. Note, the documents enclosed in the original
application will only be kept for one year. Being admitted once is no
guarantee of a new admission in the future. Further, you will have to
inform us what you have been doing during the year that has gone. We
need to know this in order to have an idea of whether you are updated
in the relevant area of study for the International Master programme.
There are various ways of keeping up to date with the field, either
taking graduate courses or by being employed in a company or
government agency that deals with the field.
Q: Why was I not admitted to the programme?
A: Non-admission may be due to several reasons. Competition for few
study places offered to students from abroad is very hard. This
means that even if you fulfil the requirements for admission, there
are not enough places to meet the demand. Another reason may be
inappropriate academic background, insufficient knowledge of basic
subjects, not sufficient test score in English or inability to prove
motivation to follow a particular Master's programme. Other reasons
are if the application is regarded as not complete (documents lacking)
or the received documents are regarded as not valid.
Q: If not admitted to the whole programme, can I take just a few
courses?
A: No, the programme can only be followed as a whole, not as
individual courses.
Q: Where do I find more information about being a student at Chalmers?
