关于托福单词的问题

本人现在正背托福单词呢  用的是俞敏洪的书，，，结果背来背去，，，发现此书好多词语解释不够合理（估计其他的也一样），，，不能让人深刻理解词汇的含义（n多！）。

比如：

contain

vt 包含 容纳 ； 控制

这里边的“控制”就比较泛泛了

而 Oxford 中的解释就说明了在什么 context 下才能用这个义项：

2 to keep your feelings under control : She was unable to contain her excitement. I was so furious I just couldn’t contain myself
(= I had to express my feelings).
3 to prevent sth harmful from spreading or getting worse: to contain an epidemic Government forces have failed to contain the rebellion.


而又比如，conserve 的含义是偏向保护、保存文物、古建筑、Nature environment的含义的，而书里给出的“保存”也过于泛泛。

consort

俞书中解释： 结交

Oxford 解释：verb /knst; NAmE srt/ [v] ~ with sb (formal) to spend time with sb that other people do not approve of: He is known to have consorted with prostitutes.
