The youth do present the trends of the future. They are the people who are going to be main stream of the culture. However, it is too generalize to study culture just from the trends of a society's children.

From the very beginning, the contemporary culture of a society is a result of its long history and culture evolution. How people talk, how people behave at certain circumstances, how people teach their next generations and so forth. Study the traditional culture is more likely to achieve all-round notice of it, and what is rooted in the culture usually don't change expect for a huge social revolution is undergoing. Chinese people think the young should support the old who have contributed their earlier life to rising up children. This is considered as a national wide virtue, no matter people live in the city or in the countryside will follow. The virtue to love the old is rooted in our culture for long history and will still maintain within. Why doesn't the study aim at the earlier culture root which is more obviously to people? The culture which benefits the nation will be handed to next generation. Old culture aspects like traditions are more worthy to study.

The contemporary culture are various from country to country. The globalization brings different values into each other, therefore the culture is changing, and the cultural trends of the children may not be accurate as they acquired information from the mass media. Say games, children who are addicted to games may have a violent trends when behave. They are influenced by the whole world in an invisible way. What the children's culture system stands for can not equal the contemporary world which is ruled by adults. The trends of the youth, by its literal meaning, can only represent a possibility of how the future culture will be like. So it is not entirely the true picture of the culture at this moment. What's more children's world view and value systems are not well formed, and are not able to know what the true culture in every aspect is. A child will think naively that people can fly in the sky if he/she watched too much Congfu movie. It is to say, the children are not proper to be the study group which haven't set up their own culture system. The study merely on children will infect the accurateness of the study.

To study the contemporary culture effectively, the main object should aims at people from youth to old at different areas in a society, and then comprehensive panorama of its culture can be achieved. A society is a complex infused with different thoughts. From a level of a small town to a level of cosmopolis, people hold various ways of thinking are parts of the culture. The variety should be noticed.

In sum, the study of a society’s current culture should focus not only the youth, but the entire social range from young to old. This will truly reveal the culture background of nation overall.
