Tittle:"As people rely more and more on technology to solve problems, the ability of humans to think for themselves
will surely deteriorate."

Will the ability of people to think for themselves deteriorate because they rely more and more on technology to solve problems? The issue is a complex one. I agree the claim that technology weakens the ability of humans to think for themselves in some cases. Nevertheless, humans' ability to think advances with respect to the process of the combination of technology and the real engineering problems and to the new arising problem after people use technology to solve problems.

There are two compelling arguments for the speaker's claim. The first has to do with egineering education. As more and more difficult problems, including some problems that could have never been solved because of the poor technology conditions before, can be effectively and even highly efficiently solved by the advanced softwares which rely on the fast developing technology nowadays, most egineering schools establish more and more courses on these softwares into their curriculum schedules, such as the famous mathematical software named Matlab and the efficient program software, Visual C++. As a result, less emphasis is put on the ability of students to think and solve problems without those softwares and some courses about the logical and critical thinking become less and less, which surely will end up to the deterioration of the students' thinking ability given most of the novices
lack the consciousness to ameliorate their thinking ability by themselves.

The second one, and the one I find more persuasive, is that using technology do harm to the development of the ability to think about and manage some problems in which people have to cope with large sum of datas and follow a large number of repeated steps. When using so many software relying the electronic and computer technology to solve such problems with a mass of datas, like some studies in the population statistics and some long-term experiments based on onerous data analysis, people have fewer oppotunities to calculate and manage the datas by themselves. In these cases, people fail to enhance their ability to think and quantize as a consequence.

On the other hand, two reasons render the speakers' claim problematic. The first reason has to do with people's efforts to combine technology and practical problems. In the example of the
high-tech mathematical softwares mentioned above, even the most brilliant and clever programer fails to use the softwares to  end up with a correct answer without transfering the pratical problems into an easy and concise mathematical model, equation or function that can be understood and disposed by the computers. It is during the transfering processes that people's thinking ability can be improved. In this case, high-tech does promote humans' ability to think for themselves.

What's more, it is highly possible that using technology to solve the old problems brings humans a series of new and even more difficult problems.
The interplay between a mass of substantial objects in this world is so marvelous and mysterious, which makes the results of people's using technology so uncertain and the rise of a new problem highly possible. Different kinds of pesticides and herbicides, invented and produced with the technology of chemistry,  biology and mechanical automation, largely increase the economic benefits of agriculture. However, the sevious environmental pollution and the destruction in the biodiversity caused by the pesticides and herbicides make people think much more aout the appropriate relationship between humans and nature as well as the balance about econimic, social and evironmental benefits. The people in the old days could have never thought about these interdisciplinary problems because of the absence of technology. Nobody can deny the fact that people' ability to think for themselves improved in this respect.

To sum up, people's ability to think deterirates as they rely more and more on technology to solve problems, especially in the education system and the solution of the problems related to a large number of datas. However, using technology calls for more thinking about the combination of the technology methods and the pratical problems and will possibly bring about new problems for people toconsider cautiously. In the final analysis, people should strive for a balance between using technologies and thinking for themselves in order to make sold and far-reaching progress for humans.

说实话,我至今没写过一篇issue,我一直忙着进行input,也算菜鸟一个。
可是,看到你文章第一段的那句“The issue is a complex one”,我真是泪奔了,这不废话嘛!
