The speaker claims that people who are the most dearly committed to an idea or policy are the most critical of it. It is seems self-contradictory, the paradox is explainable, and the explanation is well supported empirically. However, the claim to be unfair because it failed to  promotion to the public, just a thumb.

Generally speaking, to be critical means anyone who can be able to find the shortcoming and insufficiency in the specific field, and put forward the improvement suggestions and methods, instead of simply, strongly criticized and attacked.(science)

The idea of a most persistent people should have confidence in it, just like revolutionaries of France and America. When it comes to modern life, a men who does not has full confidence in the view once he believes, he is very persistent, even if there is some objection, he is likely to defended. In fact, he also tried to convince himself in defense of the process. (socialist)

Sometimes, the strongly critical person will be the most against one in the idea or policy. Opposition against the ruling party, the infidel against religion, because of this proposal they do is simply to oppose and criticize. The purpose of they criticism is that to overthrow the existing idea and policy, to pave the way for their own benefit.(Two-party system,Crusade)

It is can not be generalized that someone is full of criticism to everything; his character is so serious and demanding, others on the contrary. Anyhow, the problem is not as simple as the topic representation for our human. For each policy or idea, we must strengthen our faith, in the same time, all critical to a comprehensive analysis.

Being committed to an idea has hardly any connection with being critical of it, in my observation. It is true that some people most adhering to one idea can be most critical as well, for he knows the faults in it after long time of inquiry. But the truth of the thesis largely depends on the psychological nature of individuals.

To begin with, there are people who generally believe some idea and adhere to it without doubt. A patriotic soldier has to be the opposite of critical towards patriotism. Uneducated believers of a religion very often end up believing the religion without knowing deeply the reason. These commit themselves very deeply to an idea, but clearly they are not critical of their faith as most unbiased researchers are.

Politicians commit to ideologies and policies so as to make campaigns. But they do not have to critical of it, as for the campaign; usually what they need is excellent speech and ability to talk others into them rather than taking critical viewpoint towards his policies. Commonplace voters need to be persuaded by speeches and passion, while only a smaller portion of audience wants critical analysis of the policies.

On the other hand, steady follower can be critical of their belief as well, but, as was stated before, it depends largely on the personalities of them. Take still politicians for example, although they need to be very strongly adherent to their policies, they undeniably can remain critical to them at least in private. Only there seems to be no connection between the degree of commitment and that of being critical. Philosophers working in the Catholic Church in the Middle Ages reasoned thoroughly on the system of Christianity, treating it like mathematicians do to the axioms of mathematics. Some of these philosophers deeply commit to Christianity; some of them didn’t but only pretended to be so. Clearly we cannot find a solid relationship between how much one adheres to an idea and how critical he is to it. It would be more persuasive if we attribute the critical minds to the person’s psychological tendency to think critically, either because of education or nature.

In the final analysis, it may be admitted that some most committed people are also most critical towards it, but the conclusion doesn’t always stand. Therefore it is safer for us to see the psychological feature of the persons as the cause for critical thinking.

【我觉得用语需要再准确规范一些。另外,例子写出来和不写出来完全是不一样的,略去了例子及其分析的作文和列提纲相去不远。】

66 People who are the most deeply committed to an idea or policy are also the most critical of it.
对于一种想法或者政策最忠实的人往往是那些对其最严厉的人。

The speaker hold the opinion that the most deeply committed to an idea or policy are also the most critical of it.Although, we can not deny that the strongly convictions in the ideas convinced the people, the critics and modification is still a way to make the idea or policy perfect. Thus ,as far as we concerned that the speaker is correct to some extent.

To begin with,in physics , chemistry and some science subjects,if the people who truly believe in a theory, they will not conceal any limitations in the theory, and try their best to find and critic the limitations, hence make the theory tend to perfect. For example, Stephen Hawking,he found theory about the black hole in his early time, however,as the observation more explicit and the research more accurate ,he fond more and more mistakes in primary theory, and then he realized the theory is even whole false. In addition, Einstein put forward the special theory of relativity, after that,he find the limitations in the theory and put forward the general theory of relativity. In short,in these fields, people will try their best to make their theory more comprehensive and accurate, although they maybe overturn the theory.

In addition,in the realm of politics, people who still critic the society are always the most love the society and really want the society to be better. For example,Martin luther king who always critic the democracy and the society ,but he still frimly believe the democracy and the liberty, because he belive the democracy couldslove the unfairness and eliminate the discriminations finally .Besides, some artists who really love the art and realize essence of art are always critic works produced by themselves and others. Thus, realizing the essence clearly could motivate people to critic and modify their works or convictions

However,it does not means that we must oppose the ideas or policies we committed deeply,to some extent, we still need to support the ideas or policies. For example, Copernicus firmly believe the heliocentric theory all the time, admittedly,it seems not correct now,it make a great contributions in the history and guide the astronomers to a right direction. As we can see , firmly conviction is still indispensable in sometimes.

In sum, as we can see,the people who dare to critic themselves and others are usually the elites in every fields, they usually have a thorough understanding in their fields,as well as the critics. Thus, the society will have a great progress only through the critics from the elites who committed their ideas or policies most deeply.

爱国的士兵为啥一定要反对对爱国主义的批评?有点站不住脚。

(我觉得应该加个连接词么啥的,感觉突然断了,也有可能是我比较模式化)Politicians commit to ideologies and policies so as to make campaigns. 这段的论点是什么呢?只是举个在政治上的例子?

我还是觉得看起来有点费力,始终觉得句子稍微简单点好。
