Human beings are creatures good at learning. Every individual comes into our world without bringing anything in his mind, while later he starts to absorb knowledge via the process of learning. An infant is just like a blank sheet, which means that what he learn depends on education he accepted. So education, despite it is given from parents, schools or society, has great importance on self-development. Due to its similarities of educational aim, people are supposed to make the process formal. Through right methods, formal education can liberate people`s minds and spirits, rather than oppress them.
Human minds are such things that in terms of specific practice, such as cogitating some compex issues or trying to remember knowledge as much as possible, it gains more strength. In this process, education plays a essencial role. In one`s childhood, with so little knowledge in our minds, we can only contemplate rather simple questions. As we are growing up, during formal education, we gradually learn great much knowledge of a varieties of subjects. Math provides a way of logical thinking to us. History helps us understand the past and look forward to future. And what`s more, by the company of classmates, we are able to know how to communicate with others and adapt ourselves to live in society. In this part, formal education just act as a conductor, who intends to give us directions on the right way.
At the same time, formal education also builds our sipirits, cultivating us to be a integral man. Virtues, generally accepted by most people, appears in ones mind in educational process. Those stories of great men set a good example to us, which has a deep influence on our spirits. Take myself as an example. When I was a child, I had dreamed of becoming a scientist like Steven Hawkin, who dedicated his life to theoretical physics and had made great achievements in it. Children are in the period of form their perspective of the world and value. While formal education on this time can lead them which direction to go. As a consequence, when we grow up, we are able to be a high-spirit person, who preserves virtues such as bravety, selflessness, independence and responsibility.
However, formal educational system today is not perfect. Many schools put too much emphasis on students scores, ignoring the importance of their abilities. So students spend most of their time on doing exercises, far away from the outside real world. As a result, accepting such kind of education can only tell them nothing but the knowledge in books, in other words, students do not learn to solve problems by critical thinking. Though with these defects, formal education is still accepted as a essencial process of growth. In the futures, more appropriate educational methods will be adopted to meet every individual`s needs, making it better and better. We look forward to see that day`s coming. To begin with,as we can see,formal education usually is a essential guide for students instead of a regulation.It sets a elemental frame to make students realize and comprehend the world better,but it do not told us the things that we must to do.For example,for the students who major in art or literature,teacher might told them how to appreciate the art pieces and offer the general comments for them,but they do not convince the students whether the art pieces good or not good ,the beauty of art pieces are determined by the insight emotion and the different tastes of students.
In addition,formal education emphasizes the learning of basic skills ,methodologies and knowledge ,which might be mechanical and dull.
However,we can not deny that the skills ,methodologies and knowledge ,are the necessary foundation for us to create and image freely.Steve jobs,for example,the CEO of the Apple,we could not image that he will manage the apple successfully if he do not receive the formal education, the success of him must base on the necessary training in his college time. In short,formal education give us the environment to grasp the essential skills and knowledge,thus it is a essential prerequisite to create and have a grand accomplishment in future.
However,there exist many aspects in formal education that need reform.formal education is a general and a public educational way, it can not satisfy all the tastes of students,some top students may not need to teach by that mechanical way,they need the environment which have a free stage to create,and we need to encourage them to think more independently and critically.Besides,the formal education should offer a environment admit students exchange their experience and communicate their views more freely.For example ,the Chinese education system,we still do not believe it can educate students have the abilities to innovate in dependently,thus it might block the development in the long term unless the system realize the limitation and have a thorough reformation.
