As people rely more and more on technology to solve problems, the ability of humans to think for themselves will surely deteriorate.
With the fast development of science and technology, human kind is experiencing unprecedentedly rapid economic and social progress. Now everyday people get up and cook breakfast with microwave, oven or other cooking equipments. Taxies, buses and subways are the common tools for commute every morning. In the subway, you can easily find people talking with mobile phones or killing time with most updated Iphone or Itouch. People working in the office knock keyboard to send emails instead of hand writing. Workers in the workshop use robot and CNC machine to finish most dangerous and finest machining. With the help of advanced technological equipments, we, human can live in a comfortable way without boring and tiring work which usually bothered our ancestors.
We can easily get the conclusion that technology helps people do the jobs and set us free from boring and repeated physical work, such as machining, calculating and exploiting the dangerous places. However some people argue that high technology deteriorate the ability of humans to think for themselves. Students’ ability of mental arithmetic has been weakened gradually as we become increasingly rely on the computers. Graduates crib thesis easily online and copy other peoples’ work without studying and thinking. People who work in the office google new things every time they encounter without discovering by themselves.
While we have to admit that technology make the lazy people more stupid, but we must notice it help the industrious people more clever. Technology helps us free from the duplicated easy tasks that why human has time and space to exploit a newer and deeper field. With the help of the computer to do the calculating, we now can know the exact composition and combination of genes. The diagnose of inherent diseases will embrace a new milestone in the near future. Also with the help with computer, the information highway allows people in the poor and alien areas receive education. People sulfur the internet can learn knowledge and information at a low cost which cannot even be imagined for our ancestors. The dissemination of knowledge, in turn stimulate the scientific and technological progress. That’s why we gain remarkable social and economic progress in the 21th century.
To people who cleverly take the advantage of hi-tech, technology will not deteriorate the ability of thinking, but give us new topic of exploring and discovering. Now we consider more about the long-run development rather than simply increase the productivity. We want a more balanced economic progress rather than exploit the natural resources in an irrational manner. We are working on a global environmental protection rather than focus on our own. As the philosopher of ancient Greece said, as we compare the known part of the world to the space within the circle, the unknown part of the world around the circle grows as the known part expands. So we are faced with more challenges and topics.
History proves that with the advance in technology, we are striving into the bright future. Principle of relativity, DNA mystery, spaceflight exploration, genes research and so on so forth, these achievement may not been seen without the help of modern technology. The advance of technology can provides us more accurate and new ways of research while the results of research give birth to the new technology. They are mutual beneficial to each other.
Technology is just like a sword. Use it wisely, we may achieve more with its great help. Otherwise, you will just become a simple salve and addict of technology like a dumb knocking the keyboard with no idea what he is doing.
