求批改 argument 3
”Over the past two years, the number of shoppers in Central Plaza has been steadily decreasing while the popularity of skateboarding has increased dramatically. Many Central Plaza store owners believe that the decrease in their business is due to the number of skateboard users in the plaza. There has also been a dramatic increase in the amount of litter and vandalism throughout the plaza. Thus, we recommend that the city prohibit skateboarding in Central Plaza. If skateboarding is prohibited here, we predict that business in Central Plaza will return to its previously high levels."In this letter, the editor concluded that if skateboarding is prohibited in Central Plaza, the business will return to its previously high levels. To justify this conclusion, the editor points out that over the past two years , the number of shopper in Center Plaza has been steadily decreasing while the popularity of skateboarding has increased dramatically. What is more, many Center Plaza store owners believe that the decrease in their business is due to the number of skateboard users in the plaza, and there has also been a dramatic increase in the amount of litter and vandalism thought the plaza. It seems reasonable, at the first glance, to agree with the argument by the editor. However, several answers are needed before the assumption is evaluated.
The first question should be answered for the editor is the relationship between the decreasing numbers of shoppers in the Central Plaza and the dramatically increasing popularity of skateboarding. Should the increasing popularity of skateboarding pay for the decreasing in their business. No evidence is provided that the decreasing in business and the increasing of skateboard players are happened in the same time. Perhaps the decreasing in business of the Central Plaza is just a epitome of the cities' economic depression. For the last two years, the common income of people live in this city have a big drop, people have to decrease the frequency for them to shop in the Central Plaza. In that case, the rationality of the argument will be seriously weekend.
Another question should be answered is that whether or not the decreasing business is caused by the shopper themselves, or the increasing popularity of skateboarding implies the adventures of the central plaza. It is convenient for these skateboard players to the Central Plaza, the decreasing in business may cause by the discount of people for their qualities of their products or the qualities of their service. Or perhaps there is another big business mall is set up nearby in the last two tears. Without answering this question, the conclusion drawled by the editor will be evaluated perfectly.
In order to fully evaluate this argument, we would also need to answer the question that once the skateboarding is prohibited, would other consumers come to the Central Plaza as normal. The popularity of skateboard have grazed people in the Central Plaza, once the skateboard is prohibited, will the business be increased. Without lots of people shuttle back and forth around the plaza, the business will be increased. To make such grandiose claims, the editor really needs to answer this question.
Clearly, then, we need to have answer several questions in order to get a more complete recommendation to predict the result. we need to answer the question that Should the increasing popularity of skateboarding pay for the decrease in their business and the question that whether or not the decreasing business is caused by the shopper themselves, and so on. Without answering these question, the editor can not get a convincing claim.
