Searching for God? This might not get you any closer, but in Sweden, a pro-file-sharing group has been recognized as an official religion.
Introducing the Mission Church of Kopimism, which is deep rooted in the belief you can copy any information in any form, Forbes reports. If you think that’s bizarre, add the fact the group’s sacred symbols are “Ctrl+C” and “Ctrl+V,” keyboard shortcuts for copy and paste.
The Swedish government had denied the Kopimists’ request twice prior, since its members didn’t practice formal rituals. But the group says its “belief system with rituals” is protected under the constitution.
“We confessional Kopimists have not only depended on each other in this struggle, but on everyone who is copying information. To everyone with an internet connection: Keep copying. Maintain hardline Kopimi,” said philosophy student Isak Gerson, founder of the religion, told Torrent Freak.
The religion, which has 3,000 members, is one of 22 recognized in Sweden. Most citizens are Lutherans.
