8.7 argument提纲19-21

argument 19-21 提纲
19 Two years ago, radio station WCQP in Rockville decided to increase the number of call-inadvice programs that it broadcast...the station manager of KICK in Medway recommends that KICK includemore call-in advice programs in an attempt to gain a larger audience share inits listening area.
1. thefact that the increase of WCQP’s call-in advice programmes is followed by the riseof audience share doesn't mean the former is the cause of the latter. Is thereany statistical evidence to show that the increading number of listeners arethose interested in the station’s call-in programes?
2. thoughthe cited survey indicates a number of people enjoy call-in advice radioprogrames nationally, it is not necessarily the case in Medway where KICKlocated. Can the author provides more specific information or investigationabout the taste of residents in Medway? What if people in this area preferother kinds of programes?
3. evenall of the unsubstantiated statements were supposed to be true, there is still absenceof evidence implying that expanding the coverage of call-in programes willdefinitely lead to a increase of audience. Does KICK has the potential toprovide qualified and attractive call-in advice programes like WCQP? how muchis the chance that its audience would more willing to listen to the new formsof programes than traditional ones?
20 The following is amemorandum from the business manager of a television station.
"Over the pastyear, our late-night news program has devoted increased time to national newsand less time to weather and local news...we should restore the timedevoted to weather and local news to its former level."
1. thoughthere are a number of complaints concerning the coverage of weather and localnews, the author fails to make it clear whether these viewer are complainingabout the lack of weather and local news or the othe way around. Besides, the largeproportion of complaints about news coverage alone does not show the absolutetotal number of complaints is increasing, neither could it demonstrate the lossof popularity of late-night news as well as the decrease of its viewers.
2. moreexact and complete information about the reason why those businesses canceledtheir advertising has to be provided. Is it due to the unsatisfaction about thechanged time distribution of late-night news or is there any other factorsinfluenced their decisions?
3. ifpeople does feel uncomfortable about watching longer national news and it exactlyresults in the loss of audience and advertising investors, it is still not justifiableto restore the time of weather and local news to its former level. In order tomake sure the change will definitely bring more viewers and advertising revenue, specific statistics needs to be gathered about the intention of the TV station’sviewers.
21 The followingappeared in an article written by Dr. Karp, an anthropologist.
"Twenty yearsago, Dr. Field, a noted anthropologist, visited the island of Tertia andconcluded from his observations that children in Tertia were reared by anentire village rather than by their own biological parents...The interview-centered method that my team of graduate students is currentlyusing in Tertia will establish a much more accurate understanding ofchild-rearing traditions there and in other island cultures."
1.      Dr. Karp has to realise that there is a twenty-year span between Dr. Field’sinvestigation and his. Does he have any evidence to prove that situations inTertia island remain the same through all these years?2.       Dr. Karp needs to verify that there isa connection between children’s talking time about their biological parents andthe likelyhood of being reared by them in Tertia. There are possibilities that childrentalked much about their parents because they miss them or are curious about them.further information about the content of their talk should be shown. 3.       suppoes all of the statements Dr. Karphas made sofar are true, it is still unsubstantiated and inappropriate to saythat interview-centered method is generally more valid and reliable than theobservation-centered approach to understand cultures and traditions in Tertiaand other islands.
