issue20:Some people believe that college students should consider only their own talents and interests when choosing a field of study. Others believe that college students should base their choice of a field of study on the availability of jobs in that field.
Write a response in which you discuss which view more closely aligns with your own position and explain your reasoning for the position you take. In developing and supporting your position, you should address both of the views presented.

Response:
I admit that a pragmatic choice in the field of study can be somehow beneficial to students, however, I do not advocate job choice based only on availability of jobs in the field. Students' talents and interests need to be laid more emphasis on, while pragmatic consideration is inferior.
The aim of education is to elucidate students' self cognition and self development. In the process of pursuing their interests and exerting their talents, students clarify what kind of life they envision, which value system they bolster, and which field they are skillful in by trials and errors in an active and spontaneous way. Unfortunately, for a student who bases the selection on the availability of jobs, the only thing important for him is to excel in this field. He would bury himself in rote of specialized knowledge and technique, which give no guidance on how he could view himself, where he is in the physical and metaphysical world, and why and how this particular field would become his vocation. Finally, it is likely that he would be bewildered by his perception outside the technical details and feel agonized. Therefore, it is more advisable to consider talents and interests when choosing a field of study.
On the social scale, the proposed approach to choose a field of study is as opprobrious as it is on the individual scale. In a society where every member decides their career on the basis of availability of jobs, certain problems are to emerge. A typical one is the superfluity in certain fields, which, as a over-concentration of homogeneous practitioners, constitutes a waste of resources. However, in fields which have moderate demand for new practitioners, a dearth of new guys undermines the potential development of those fields. Particularly in some formidable fields like science and philosophy, a loss of a few geniuses would never be remedied.
A pragmatic approch which encourage students to choose a field of study easy to find jobs has the merits of highly-aimedness and prospect of profitability. However, considering infringement of individual wholeness of development and emergence of potential social problems, the virtue here is trivial. This does not mean worldly consideration is not decent; a conciliation is to ponder particular talents and interests from which relatively better availability of jobs is more accessible.
In summary, I would embrace the claim that college students should consider their talents and interests first, while a pragmatic attitude need not be absolutely deserted but must be circumscribed and treated as sideshow.
