"Of the two leading real estate firms in our town—Adams Realty and Fitch Realty—Adams Realty is clearly superior. Adams has 40 real estate agents; in contrast, Fitch has 25, many of whom work only part-time. Moreover, Adams' revenue last year was twice as high as that of Fitch and included home sales that averaged $168,000, compared to Fitch's $144,000. Homes listed with Adams sell faster as well: ten years ago I listed my home with Fitch, and it took more than four months to sell; last year, when I sold another home, I listed it with Adams, and it took only one month. Thus, if you want to sell your home quickly and at a good price, you should use Adams Realty."
Write a response in which you examine the stated and/or unstated assumptions of the argument. Be sure to explain how the argument depends on these assumptions and what the implications are for the argument if the assumptions prove unwarranted.

In this argument, the author pointed out that of the two leading real estate firms Adams Realty is clearly superior to Fitch Realty. And the author suggested to use Adams Realty when selling your home. However, although some of the claims seems reasonable at first glance, we cannot fully accept the author’s recommendation without the substantiation of several critical assumptions.
In the first place, the author unfairly assumed that all the 40 real estate agents of Adams do not work part-time. However, this may not be the truth. There are some possibilities that Adams has less full-time employees, though has a higher total number, than Fitch. Granted that Adams has not only more agents in total but also more full-time agents, it may not be a good indication that the personal working abilities of Adams’ employees is necessarily higher than Fitch’s and Adams will provide faster and higher-quality services. Thus, from the mere statistics about the agents, we cannot draw the conclusion that Adams is a better choice.
Secondly, the author falsely assumed that Adams Realty has a better running states by citing the two companies’ revenue and average sales prices of homes last year. Unfortunately, although this case may to some extent reflect the quality of two companies’ services, there may exist many other factors that could influence the price of home sold by two companies. For example, as we know, in different areas of the city, the average house price could vary dramatically. Besides, the age and the quality of houses could be of great significance in determining the prices. Assuming that last year Adams has better performance, however, whether the statistics of a single year is sufficient and effective to represent the two companies’ performance in the long run is open to doubt.
What’s more, the author try to convince us Adams always sell homes faster by citing two cases with an interim of 9 years of his own. Nevertheless, although sounds reasonable, it can hardly substantiate what the author claims. There are many other factors that could explain this situation. Such as the location and the quality of the two homes may render the price significantly different. Even if the location and quality of the two homes is almost the same, there is high possibility that inflation may be a key factor of variation in house prices.
In conclusion, the author fails to provide convincing argument to demonstrate that Adams does perform better and is a preferable choice. Lacking substantiation of several crucial assumptions mentioned above, we cannot hastily accept the author’s recommendation.
A number of assumptions have been made about the relation between the number of real estate agents and the quality of their service, the home-sale price, and the speed that the house can be sold. We need to examine the assumptions carefully in order to assess the argument.
To begin with, the assumption that the real estate that has more agents has higher service quality may not hold true. Part-time
What is more, the assumption that the real estate firm which has higher revenue and average home-sale price can certainly sell a home at a good price may be proved unwarranted.
Finally, it is assumed that the homeowner’s experience is the same as the majority of people.
To what extent the …
It is assumed that the past selling records can be used to predict future selling performance.
