issue112 "Some educational systems emphasize the development of students' capacity for reasoning and logical thinking, but students would benefit more from an education that also taught them to explore their own emotions."

The speaker claims that education should not only emphasize the development of students' capacity for reasoning and logical thinking, but also teach them how to explore their own emotions. I strongly agree with the speaker's claim. In my point of view, the educational systems have been quite right in emphasizing the capacity of reasoning and logical thinking, which is basic and the most important purpose of education, and I see much evidence for the view that teaching students to explore their emotions would benefit them even more, though too much emphasis on emotions would do the opposite.

In the first place, our society's stability is open to doubt without people's capacity for reasoning and logical thinking. Emotions invite irrationality in thought and action. Any society that sanctions irrationality and unfettered venting of emotions is vulnerable to decline. In contrast reasoning and logical thinking help people tolerate people who have different views or life styles, thus contributes to the reduction of conflicts. Laws and regulations, which are the skeleton of society, would amount to nothing if most of the people lack the capacity of reasoning and logical thinking. In fact, many social ills such as the war on drugs and abortion are best solved by identifying the cause-and effect relationships—in other words, through the capacity of reasoning and logical thinking of people. People's emotions such as fears and prejudices may make things even worse on these issues. Therefore, we can see that it is quite reasonable to emphasize the capacity of reasoning and logical thinking in the process of education to make students good citizens.

In addition, in most academic disciplines it is by cultivating the capacity of reasoning and logical thinking that students master their discipline. For example, physics and math, it would be hard for me to think that without reasoning and logical thinking of former generations can we have produced such subjects. How can one research the motion of objects by exploring one's own emotions? How can emotions tell us where is the center of universe? Of course, we can make up answers that make us happy to certain problems, but those answers are certainly unfounded. A telling example is that we have found out that the earth is not the center of universe as we once hoped and referred to as evidence that humans are the center of universe. Even in the so-called "soft" disciplines, such as history, politics, and public policy, the capacity for reasoning and logical thinking is very important. Although it is tempting to think that students can best understand these subjects by exploring the emotions such as sympathy and indignation because the study of these disciplines is largely the study of how the concepts of fairness, equality and justice work themselves out. Yet we should realize that emotions are subjective and fairness, equality and justice have little to do with them. In contrast, reason is objective and therefore contributes to consensus, peaceful compromise and communication, which reflect how fairness, equality and justice are realized. To make sure that students can learn these subjects well and, in turn, gain a capacity to contribute to further progress in these areas, education should emphasize the capacity of reasoning and logical thinking.

We can see that emotions may bring so many negative effects and seems useless in the study of most academic disciplines, then why should we teach students how to explore their own emotions? Empirical experience has told us the importance of doing so. Students can find their own concerns and interests by exploring their own emotions, hence they are more probably to choose a major or career suitable for themselves. What's more, humans would be reduced to machines without emotions. Exploring one's emotions can help one communicate with others better, which is not only important psychologically for an individual but also one of the basic skills required by society. Exploring one's emotions has proven most useful in the fields of art and literature. After all, artistic ideas and inspiration spring not from logic but emotions such as joy, sadness, fear, hope and love. And the evaluation of art and literature works cannot be lead by logic but lies in a work's impact on people's emotion and spirit. Without exploring his own emotions, Picasso would not have succeed in drawing like a child and if we evaluate works by critical thinking, Dally, whose works reflect his personal inner world, would remain obscure.

In sum, I strongly agree with the speaker's suggestion that education should not only emphasize reasoning and logical thinking but also teach students to explore their own emotions. But we should always emphasize the primary role of reasoning and logical thinking, and be alert that emotions are not emphasized too much.

语言上没什么问题了

不过题目说的是...logical thinking..., but...more...emotion一个转折
你同意的是一个not only but also的并列
感觉有点问题

整篇文章都很流畅,例子好多阿,看起来也很过瘾
不过考试时怎么能写出这么长的来?
我感觉举例再集中一点,捡主要的分析就更好了
