issue63"To truly understand your own culture—no matter how you define it—requires personal knowledge of at least one other culture, one that is distinctly different from your own."Do you truly understand your own culture, defined as traditions handed over from generation to generation? Most people may say no. Then, do you have interest to study it? As a member of the nation, the people, the majority may say yes. But how can we study and understand it? Some people may suggest reading numerous traditional works famous in the history. Yet, is it enough? In my opinion, the best way of a true understand of a culture is to know not only itself but also some other cultures.
No matter in history or in modern society, there is any doubt that no culture exists independently. In ancient times, our ancestors often change goods as the earliest form of commerce, during which cultures interacted each other underlying, for every good was so specialized, containing unique techniques, colorful draws. Later, in middle age, some business people or missionaries traveled around the world, bringing books with them, which played an important role in the exchange of culture. Marco Polo, a famous explorer, had been to China three times, and then brought some modern ideas from China to his motherland, those ideas further effecting Europe at that time. Indeed, in this day and age, people are inclined to use globalization in daily life: globalize industries, globalize economy, globalize culture, etc. People all over the world listen to different radio stations, watch programs from various countries' stations, read internationally affected newspaper and magazines. Therefore, every culture affected by one culture, influences at least one another at the same time.
When we read another culture, it will help us understand our culture better. As cultures effects each other, if we only study ours without the help of others, we may not truly understand ours. Take American people as an instance, as known to all, several hundreds ago, no except some original people lived in the continent of America. Soon after Columbus first found America, more and more Europeans traveled across the Atlantic, bring customs, goods, and guns to this continent. Even nowadays, people coming from different countries living in US, continuously adding the element of new cultures into this existing one of US, and this is why US is regarded as a country of mixed culture. If anyone wants to understand American culture, he have to know what happening in Europe led some citizens to escaping from their motherlands, similarly, he have to know British culture, Spanish culture, Chinese culture, etc, to help him understand the source of American culture and then find the similarities and varieties in those cultures, thus, he will really know how American culture formed.
Additionally, during the comparison between our culture and others, we will find the unique of our own culture. As nations experience various situations in their development, their have totally different background. As a Chinese citizen, after listening to Rock & Roll music, reading Shakespeare’s works, appreciating Picasso’s painting, I realize the treasure of Chinese traditional culture: folk tunes, poems in Tang Dynasty, Confucius’s philosophical thoughts, which experienced the tests of history and became cannon. Without comparisons, I might see them as something natural in daily life, ignoring their values; even, denying their affect in Chinese history. According to experience by myself, I believe that if there exist some differences that bring people to think, they will truly understand the value of their own culture.

All in all, to better know one’s culture, he or she should study it carefully, with the conference of other culture. And only through comparison have we got a new sight of our own culture.
第二段:handed over,最好为handed dwon from one generation to another.
not only, but also.可不可以换为not only, but sth also.
Do you truly understand your own culture, defined as traditions handed over from generation to generation? Most people may say no. Then, do you have interest to study it? As a member of the nation, the people, the majority(这应该再有一格逗号吧) may say yes.
Marco Polo, a famous explorer, had been to China three times, and then brought some modern ideas from China to his motherland, those ideas further effecting Europe at that time(请问在这种情况下,即要修饰的词被状语格开的时候,不用这种分词短语,用非限定性定语从句行吗?). Indeed, in this day and age, people are inclined to use(我觉得用refer to更能体现你要表达的意思) globalization in daily life: globalize industries, globalize economy, globalize culture, etc. People all over the world listen to different radio stations, watch programs from various countries' stations, read internationally affected newspaper and magazines. Therefore, every culture affected by one culture, influences at least one another at the same time.
When we read another culture, it will help us understand our culture better. As cultures effects (affect)each other, if we only study ours without the help of others, we may not truly understand ours. Take American people as an instance, as known to all, several hundreds ago, no except some original people lived in the continent of America. Soon after Columbus first found America, more and more Europeans traveled across the Atlantic, bring customs, goods, and guns to this continent. Even nowadays, people coming from different countries (are)living in US, continuously adding the element of new cultures into this existing one of US, and this is why US is regarded as a country of mixed culture. If anyone wants to understand American culture, he have to know what happening in Europe led some citizens to escaping from their motherlands, similarly, he have(has to know British culture, Spanish culture, Chinese culture, etc, to help him understand the source of American culture and then find the similarities and varieties in those cultures, thus, he will really know how American culture formed.
Additionally, during the comparison between our culture and (that of) others, we will find the unique of our own culture. As nations experience various situations in their development, their (they) have totally different background. As a Chinese citizen, after listening to Rock & Roll music, reading Shakespeare’s works, appreciating Picasso’s painting, I realize the treasure(这里我觉得这里应该强调文化的独特性即你前面说得unique,用treasure不太合适,而且给我的感觉像是在贬前面提级的几种外国的文化形式) of Chinese traditional culture: folk tunes, poems in Tang Dynasty, Confucius’s philosophical thoughts, which experienced the tests of history and became cannon. Without comparisons, I might see them as something natural in daily life, ignoring their values; even, (这个逗号有必要吗?)denying their affect in Chinese history. According to experience by myself, I believe that if there exist some differences that bring people to think, they will truly understand the value of their own culture.
All in all, to better know one’s culture, he or she should study it carefully, with the conference of other culture. And only through comparison have we got a new sight of our own culture.
最后问一个问题,in this day and age , 这种说法你有把握吗?
2。TO:caspereye
3。TO: cale
Marco Polo, a famous explorer, had been to China three times, and then brought some modern ideas from China to his motherland, those ideas further effecting Europe at that time。
in this day and age
4。TO:Fun_Yuan_23
