When a human makes a decision, he will evaluate the benefit and the possible bad outcome of his decision, and make out best of his behavior. Without careful consideration, we may make big mistakes and sometimes it is impossible to make up for those mistakes. While in some cases, the outcome is unpredictable, and over-emphasis on the outcome would make us lose the best chance, especially in politics and scientific research. If this is the case, a bit of risk is worthy even if we can hardly know anything about the outcome.
There is no doubt that risk should be under control, and we should consider every possible outcomes before we make the risky decision. Otherwise, it is highly possible we could finally pay for it. For example, even though nuclear electricity is known for its efficiency and cleanness, we cannot simply treat it like other energy resources. To build a nuclear electricity station, we should take every possible accident into consideration and make corresponding emergency plan. Even though the nuclear leak accident in Japan is serious, the pollution is well controlled after the accident. Citizens are carefully protected and pollution are not spread to other districts. All of these protective measures are already designed before the nuclear electricity station is built.
While sometimes, outcomes are not clear but it is still worth it to take some risks, especially when it comes to politics reform and scientific research. Even if women in the 18th century had no idea whether the world would admit they have the same rights with men, their protest is meaningful and profound. As for scientific research, someone argues that we should use the money for education and poverty instead of waste money in universe. Not only we have no idea is there alien in the space or will the outer space research benefit human, we still should continue the research, since it is the nature of human to explore the unknown world, and we cannot stop because of the risks and challenges.
Above all, there is no doubt we should take careful consideration before we take risks, while this is not always true. In terms of politics reform and scientific research, there is high possibility we have no idea about the possible outcome and risks. Risk actions are essential to challenges the authorities and previous ideas. 求删帖
