The Mechanism and Biosensors of small GTPases Group of Dr. Daniel Abankwa (Adjunct Professor at Åbo Akademi University and Akademy of Finland Research fellow) at the Turku Centre for Biotechnology, Turku Finland (www.btk.fi) is recruiting. The institute is housed in Biocity Turku, one of the best biocenters in Finland. Turku is an inviting international student city, with easy access to the Baltic area and Europe.
Our research focuses on the membrane organization and signaling activity of the oncogene Ras. We recently described a new mechanism how Ras can be overactivated in cancer (Solman, M., et al. (2015). Specific cancer-associated mutations in the switch III region of Ras increase tumorigenicity by nanocluster augmentation. eLife) and have developed approaches to target the membrane organization of Ras (Köhnke, M., et al. (2012). Design and Application of In Vivo FRET Biosensors to Identify Protein Prenylation and Nanoclustering Inhibitors. Chemistry & Biology, 19(7), 866–874.) We use cutting-edge quantitative microscopy methods (FLIM, FRAP, FCS), high-throughput approaches (chemical- and RNAi-screening), as well as cellular and in vivo models to answer exciting questions in cancer cell biology.
We are looking for candidates with very good academic qualifications and a high motivation, who recently earned their master’s degree in a discipline related to life sciences or biophysics. Good practical experience with two of the following skills is desired: protein purification, fluorescence imaging, image analysis, cellular transformation assays, high-content/ throughput screening or flow cytometry. Good practical experience with basic molecular biology techniques (e.g. cloning, PCR etc.) is important. Good to very good knowledge of English is required. The stipend 1500 支持你！！！
