Continued sedimentation—the process of deposits' settling on the sea bottom—buries the organic matter and subjects it to higher temperatures and pressures, which convert the organic matter to oil and gas. 这个版本是选的A，我还有套，给的答案是C。
我觉得两个都有点问题，首先A， promote sedimentation原话中没有promote这层意思，更不是Higher temperatures and pressures 去促进 sedimentation。
然后C，into petroleum，觉得不准确，文中不是成 petroleum而是oil and gas，这连两个应该有很大的差别。而说是oil and gas形成petroleum是后话，原文至少这句没讲到这个意思，就前面讲的也是seems to……
请教高手，是我对选型理解错了吗？

A应该是正确的选项，原因有两个：
第一个，原句当中虽然没有明确出现promote或者它的近义词，但是文章当中的意思正是沉积物产生的高温高压使得有机物转化，这其实就是一个promote的过程
第二个，subject 这个词本身就是“使遭受”的意思

原文那句话的翻译是：堆积物沉积到海底的过程，即持续沉淀，会将有机物埋在海底并利用海底的温度，高压转变成油和气。
而A我的理解是：Higher temperatures and pressures promote sedimentation, which is responsible for petroleum formation.
高温和高压促进了沉积作用（这个作用就是石油…………）。
关键就在于，原文没有说是高温高压去促进沉积，只是说利用高温高压去转变成油。两者对高温高压的用途感觉不一致。

我考gmat的时候很强调一种题型就是which指代，which作为非限制定于从句，指代前面的名词 ，原文是这样的buries the organic matter and subjects it to higher temperatures and pressures, which convert the organic matter to oil and gas
这里which指代higher temperatures and pressures
答案里Higher temperatures and pressures promote sedimentation, which is responsible for petroleum formation
which 指代sedimentation，我想我这个答案应该对的，至少gmat也曾经是ETS的考试啊
