Thank you for your email. Yes, we understand that you have fulfilled the basic admission requirements and found your application considerable. That is why we invited you to a telephone interview on 22 Jan. For some applicants who are not as strong as you, they do not even have a chance to be interviewed. However, given that the class quota is limited and the receipt of a large number of applications, our Admission Panel has to weight applicants and is sorry but have to decide your application unsuccessful.
Our admission panel considers applicants from many different perspectives, for instance applicants’ academic background, English proficiency, keenness and suitability to take the programme, personality, etc. All of these are counted. In order to be benefited from the programme which is conducted and assessed in English, applicants’ English standard should be very high, not just to a point of meeting the English proficiency requirement set out by the Graduate School. When I say English standard, test score or statements submitted can be regarded as indicators but performance in the interview is also considered.
All in all, thank you once again for your application to our Programme. We believe that apart from taking our programme, students can always have a lot of other channels to learn more about Chinese Studies. Wish you a fruitful and prosperous future!
If any other applicants have any questions about their admission application or application results, they are always welcome to email us. We will certainly reply every one of you as much as we can. Thank you.
