像桑德拉布洛克(one of my favorite movie stars),令我不停的盯着她看(hehe),
9号高个TT(so
vo: Jamie!
me: Yes, here :) Good morning, sir, nice to meet you.
vo: Nice to meet you, too. How are you doing?
Me: oh, I’m pretty good! Thanks for asking
Vo: So, Industrial Relations?
Me: Yes, at Carlson school. :)
Vo: Is it a MBA program?
Me: No, Ph.D.
Vo: What subject?
Me: The subject is Industrial Relations
的), and I want to study the American Labor Unions and their impact on
Human Resource Management. Then I’ll do comparative research between
American Labor Union system and Chinese industrial relations. You know, th
e
workers in the US…(想进一步举例解释,被打断)
Vo: (看着我去年被拒签的156表) You was going to Boston University last year.
Me: Yes.
Vo: Which major?
Me: Economics, exactly.
Vo: So, you changed your school and changed your major, this is @#$%^&*(声音有
Me: Actually, this program ranks top 2 in America, and they only admitted 4
students among near 200 applicants. I’m very proud that I’m the only one
from China.
Vo: But …….. industrial relations, ……….. economics…………(还是说我转专
业)
Me: Well, that’s exactly one of my big changes I’m gonna tell you.
After I worked
in my former company, I came to have great interest in industrial
relations, and with careful consideration, I found that this major not onl
y
integrates my previous undergraduate study in business and my preparation
and interest in economics, but also has more opportunities to do new
research and product publications. You know, this area is very new in
China. I don’t want to study what everybody will study, I want something
new.
Vo: (看着我的156表) But you quitted your job.
Me: I had worked there from last September to this April. And then because of
SARS and I have to apply my passport in my hometown, I went back. Now, I’
ve been reviewing some text books for my further study.
Me: (看他没表态,继续解释)Well, I got a basic knowledge of management in my
undergraduate study and I learned all areas of management
This is my advantage! Otherwise they won’t give me the offer
!
They need students who have such background as mine. You know what kind of
subject they will use to do research on industrial relations? Economics!
Labor economics is very important to this area. They also need the
knowledge of Management, such as Human resource management, psychology and
so on.
Vo: Did you apply any Chinese schools?
Me: No, because I want to study American Labor Union and do comparative
research. And in China, if you got a Ph.D. from the US, you will receive
more preference.
Vo: Then what kind of job you want to have after your graduation?
Me: I want to join the faculty of one of the best business schools in China.
Actually, one of my schoolmates of University of Minnesota who also got th
e
Ph.D. from the same program as mine entered PKU immediately after his
graduation. He also wrote a letter for me. You wanna have a look?
Another practical important reason (for changing my major
)
is that the salary of the faculty in business school is almost half more
than those economists. I can never make 300,000RMB a year if I don’t stud
y
it (industrial relations) there (university of minnesota). Only in busines
s
school can I make that much money. I think people have to be practical.
You know, I worked in the Department of
Human Resources at my former company, CUEC, and I coordinated the
relationship between the employers and employees, and studied the incentiv
e
mechanism for our employees to motivate them to work harder and smarter,
Vo: Ok, I got you,
have a nice day就自觉的跑到window 10 去了。
