Sometimes we are made helpless by machines----we cannot surpass the calculator in popping out a correct answer, or we cannot do the work what the measure machines can do easily and accurately, or we cannot beat the simulant opponent in a chess game. We may sense fear and threat of some kind.
Admittedly, machines have surpassed human beings in various ways, just as mentioned in the first paragraph. The calculator can calculate faster and more accurate than us. The measure machines can give out the exact figure we are looking for. The computer can memorize much more and much clearer than us. The machines not only surpass us in degree, but also occupy all aspects of our life. No matter where you go----schools, hospitals, supermarkets, or even in the street, you will see their trace. In the school, the teachers use polymedia to make their lessons more vivid. In the hospital, the docter use all kinds of medical apparatus to examine the patient and find out the hidden disease. In supermarkets, the salesgirls use machines to memorize the prices and take records what they have sold. In the street, machines are used to keep the traffic and take photos of those who break the traffic orders. I cannot enumerate all the conditions where machines surpass us----they are everywhere!
However, what we need to stop to think about is why the machines have surpassed us. Indeed, they are made to surpass us. Machines are made by people to make our life more convenient and comfortablem. Their appearence saves us more time to achieve more significant goals, thus making our society develop in an ever higher speed. Without machines, we are still engaged in those triffles such as calculating and memorizing the primary data and knowledge. Without machines, we cannot figure out the cause of some diseases, thus many lives will leave us. Without machines, many scientific and societal success will not be discovered, the development of our society will lag behind.
Then another question crops up that, do machines really surpass us human beings? The issue should be viewed accordingly. Some of our intellectual abilities are undoubtedly surpassed by machines, such as measuring, calculating or memorizing. As we have clarified above, they are made to surpass us in this primary areas. However, in the advanced areas, such as thinking, judging and creating, they can never emulating human beings. Human beings are equipped with highly advanced thinkings----logic and judgement according to the conditions. They are also highly creative. Indeed, machines are the creation of our advanced thinkings. Therefore, the human mind will always be superior to machines because machines are only tools of human minds.
Another consideration lies in whether the human mind is merely intellectual. There are two kinds of test of human mind---intelligence quotient test and emotion quotient test. It is clear to figure out that human mind is not only intellectual, but also emotional. Human beings possess self-awareness, which machines can never be blessed with. We know "what, who, why, where, how". We know what we have got, what we want, and what wo will get. We know how to get, where we are in the process, and who we should tend to and cooperate with. Machines, however, will only do what human order them to do. Furthermore, human beings have morals. They can tell right from wrong in terms of values they have received from culture and society. This point is too far beyond the reach of machines.
In conclusion, machines are only tools of human mind and the embodiment of human wills, so machines cannot surpass human mind.
