The lecture tells the result of the third reexamination of one painting which is doubted whether it was really painted by Rembrandt. The answer is yes; and experts resolve the three problems listed in the reading material.
The first problem is the fur collar. Researchers found that it was added to cover the original portrait about 100 hundred years after this painting was finished. The painting seller might want to increase its value by presenting a more luxurious image. As a result, this turns to be kind of an inconsistence with Rembrandt's real style.
Secondly, it is still caused by the fur collar that the light and shadow do not fit the dark collar. In fact, the collar must by some light color so that the women's face appears to be illuminated. But the one who painted the fur collar made such an error.
The final point is about the panel. Different from other works of Rembrandt, the painting's panel is made of several pieces of wood which are glued together. Experts say that its former owner intended to make it more valuable, so its panel was enlarged and replaced with glued wood pieces, in order to let the painting appear grander. Consequently, doubts of the panel are generated.
