Some people think the high sales of products reflect the power of advertising instead of the consumers’ demand. To what extent do you agree?
Nowadays, there are advertisements of various forms which can be seen nearly everywhere, including television commercials, internet advertising, newspaper advertising, et cetera. While the advertisements are playing an essential role in selling, there has been much discussion revolving around the issue of whether the success of the product sale depends on the advertisement rather than the requirements of consumers.
To begin with, most of the consumers would buy the products only when their requirements were met. For example, my mother will never buy a pair of football shoes for herself, because she does not even like this sports game. Further, the consumers would probably purchase the products more than one time if the products were very useful for them, which could greatly boost the sales of the products. Actually, I have been wearing a certain brand of clothes for many years for its extra fine quality, which should contribute to enhancing its sales. Besides, if the consumers are satisfied with the products, they may introduce them to their families or friends, and thus that would also be of positive/active effect to enhance the products sales.
On the other side of the debate though, many individuals argue that the advertising plays a pivotal role in the sales of products. In order to plug the products, the producers tend to make use of advertisements to inform public of the new products. Therefore, a good amount of potential consumers would know the products and might purchase them as a result. In addition, people tend to buy the products of famous brands, which can be a guarantee of fine quality and service. Obviously, advertising campaign is an excellent way to make the brand “famous”. That means, the advertising should be a powerful tool to boost the sales of the products.
Concerning this issue, I tend to believe that consumers’ demand should be much more important. The advertisements tend to be increasingly less convincing, since the recurrent glossy advertisements have been raising people’s awareness of the honesty and faith problems of the manufacturers. Accordingly, it would be generally advisable for them to enhance the sales by improving the quality of products themselves and the services involved.作者: bqiana 时间: 2011-12-19 21:38:37
