Despite being located in hot and sunny California, San Francisco is famous for its ______ weather, engendered by the confuence of two different meteorological systems in the Bay Area.
A. stimulating
B. adverse
C. balmy
D. appealing
E. duplicitous

答案：B

我选的是C，觉得hot对balmy挺好的。。

修饰同一事物不能使用完全相反词汇。
这里san francisco在hot and sunny California，那么hot and sunny 是其特点一，但前面出现despite，说明有转折。转折有两个方向，一是非hot and sunny ，明显违反了前面的原则。两一个是，不仅hot and sunny ，而且还有其他性质。
从后面confuence of two different meteorological systems in the Bay Area发现其具有这两种极端的气候，因而adverse是最佳的。

我对这个原则不太理解，不是很多填空题里面都有同一事物的矛盾两面吗？选的选项也是相反的

2# 苏梳眠 来看看也有疑惑诶~这题如果自己读句意之后再取反那就是adverse了但是如果快速做题的时候直接看到despite然后sunny取反很容易选成balmy诶。。怎么才能避免这种错误啊。。

加州的天气hot and sunny，即是温暖的意思；hot（炎热）对 balmy说得过去，但hot and sunny（温暖）对 balmy，明显不是反义啊。

我第一次也是选的balmy，但有两点不符合：1.hot后面还并列了一个sunny，balmy与sunny没关系；2，后面的engendered by the confuence of two different meteorological systems in the Bay Area.
